I hear ya, its the internet forum curse. 3 people out of 10k have a legitimate problem and soon everyone is talking about it as if it happened to them blowing it all out of proportion. Believe half of what ya see, and 1% of what ya read on the internet

A little background...Madcat went to a dealer that didn't know the proper procedure and didn't have the removal tool. The OP on his second post sounds like a troll. He has over 150,000 miles on his truck allegedly. The recommended change interval is 100k, not 150k.

I know. They are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Pessimists. You'd think I would be a pessimist with a sig like mine.

Wait, me troll? I might be reading that wrong, but no Im not trolling etc. I have 88,800 on my 04 F150 and took the plugs to a dealer that def. had no idea of the procedure. Like I said Ive only read of like 2 other people have issues like mine, and then naturally I was the 3rd.

Im saying that I basically was one of the few, few cases that had this happen.

Maybe I just read that post wrong, but Im def. not trolling, just posting the info I have from my past 6 days of issues with my 04 and its plugs.

You're not the OP (original poster.)

trolling?

Its my original post and i dont even know what trolling is. I put 35,000 miles a year on my truck and due to the information I read here I put off the spark plug change until 150,000. I would like to squeeze a few more miles out of this truck so after a long discussion with the dealer I went ahead.
We had a good discussion about the possibility of the spark plugs breaking given the mileage. He felt they had a good track record and have had very few break. My main issue was that they kept going after breaking four for four like they were experimenting.

If this in not a serious issue ( 1 in 10k) as is being suggested, then why are they specifically trained to handle this, have developed a tool for the situation, and established a price for when it happens. I believe they know exactly how serious this is and are concerned when the large population of these trucks start coming in for changes.

The quote was $350 for the work and parts PLUS an additional $80 a cylinder if it breaks. They ended up charging me $415 for 4 plugs completed. They knocked a bunch off of the labor and parts. They know they should have just suggested to leave it alone and were glad to slap it back together incomplete and send me on my way.

Wait, BASED on the info here you put off the plugs to 150K? The majority of the info here recommended pulling the plugs every 30-40K to minimize the chance of breakage. Had you truly followed the information posted here you likely could have avoided all this.

$450

Some of you alls dealerships are CRAZY!! I got charged $120 at my local dealership for removal, and were gonna charge me $40 for each plug that had to be extracted, luckily not one broke.

My mileage is up there aswell.

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. I changed mine at 16k miles, however, they probably weren't fused welded like the ones in a 150k mile engine. They were very difficult to come out, though. If I wouldn't have turned them about a quarter turn, and lubricated them, I don't think they would have come out in one piece. When they started turning, I turned them gently, and lubricated them again. Those guys at the dealership probably started turning them and cranked up the ratchet torque once they were moving. I wouldn't trust a dealership changing them. Nobody is going to give your truck the TLC you give it.

I know right? I paid $110 parts and labor for mine at the 30k service. The best part was they spun right out like @#$% through a goose.

Just got a call from Ricart and here's what he said;
Anyways, they said Ford is paying 40% and they are paying 10%. Said they had over 20 hrs of work involved in it and if I wanted to go after Ford for more $$ I can fill out a complaint form and send it in and try to go above the Regional Ford Rep. and see what I can do. Naturally Im going to do that, take pics with my digicam, and then Email Ford as well and see what I can do. I mean all I care right now is getting my truck, with it running correctly.

The guy said that this was the best they could offer right now but he would give me a form to fillout and send to Ford with my complaints. Im going to call my uncle and talk to him about it too tomorrow and see what he thinks I can do to get more cash from Ford.

I just hope that everything works correctly and isnt worse then when I took it in, since it was running fine.
Ill post my final results when I get back.

A $1267 plug change...

Ah yes, finally got my truck back and the total of 50% was $1267 and odd change. That was only 50% of the total costs. 18.1 hrs of labor. Now thats awesome. They had to pull the engine, refill fluids, etc and even recharged my AC since it is november and Im sure Ill need it this winter....

Anyways, if I knew how to post pics I would. But just look at my profile albums of photos to see um. They all snapped off but 1, and yes they did follow the TSB's to a T actually. They are even noted with the TSB number and details in my receipt. FUnny because the tech explained what they had to do to me, and yep it was done correctly.

So ya, this does happen even when procedures are followed.
