Anybody with a 2007+ with either the S&B or Outlaw intake?
Anybody with a 2007+ with either the S&B or Outlaw intake?
I currently have a Outlaw intake. Ever since I bought it I have been dealing with this annoying creaking that occurs at slower speeds and even idle. It turns out it is coming from the contact between the rubber throttle body elbow and the silver firewall insulation behind the throttle body. Looking at other pics of peoples engine compartment makes me think the insulation was new for 07.. Am I correct on this?
I am wondering if there is anyone with a 2007 and the Outlaw intake have this same problem? I am seriously considering the S&B as the repalcement, but want to hear from others with a 2007 before having the same problem again.

*EDIT* sorry, I think the silver insulation is new, all I have is a black fiber type insulation in mine, does yours not have that?? Also is part of your problem the drone of the engine lugging?

The drone is not the problem, it is definitly a creaking of some sort.

I have an 07 and also have the insulation. My S&B intake does rub against the insulation.
While driving the truck I dont hear any weird noises at all. But if I grab the air box and jiggle it the coupler between the air box and the fender squeks pretty bad.

Good to know. You don't hear anything while in the cab coming though the firewall from the rubbing.? Mine is very noticeable at idle or while driving slow such as backing out of the driveway.

I'm guessing they never tested it on a newer truck with this type of firewall insulation. If you look close at the pic, it is pushing in low on the elbow, so i'd have to cut it down quite a bit, then I'm not sure if everything else would fit like it should. It might be worth a try though. I just don't want to cut it up, just in case I end up selling it. I shouldn't have to cut it to make it fit.
If you buy a S&B, pay careful attention to the intake tube where the mass flow sensor mounts. They don't have their molding process well controlled. There's a height issue, that can allow the sensors sealing gasket not to seal. A little reworking, can fix this.
