Horsepower and MPG don't really reflect on eachother. Its more like MPG's are reflected by how efficient the engine/drivetrain are and how hard it works.
Only 500 HP

That would beat the hell out off a 300HP engine (more like 225HP to the wheels) that averages 13MPG. I guess that says a lot about how effecient the 5.4L is doesnt it?

I would be happy to trade 2mpg for 200HP any day!

I wasn't saying 500 is little. I was saying if I owned a regular cab/short bed 2wd truck that got a wopping 11mpg average, then it would have more than 500hp.

Do you really think an 8.3L V10 with 500/500 is an engineering marvel? A well built carbed N/A small block can do that.

Anyone knocking this, or any trucks like this, needs to see one in person and check it out... I have seen this truck and one built by the Earnhart Brothers that was a Harley Davidson replica, and they are freakin awesome!! If you dont like one-offs thats your deal, but dont knock a fine ride!! Just my .02...

Its a good thing I don't have a 5.4, but instead a 4.2 manual. It would also beat the hell out of my 202hp (like 185 at the wheels) that averages 16 or 17 mpg.

The problem with the 5.4 is that its auto tranny eats up 75+hp from its 300hp. The tranny isn't efficiant.

I would go diesel if I want a powerful and efficient truck. 500hp and 16mpg is doable. Plus with a 500hp diesel you would probably have 900+lb.ft of torque.

dude '06stx man... you just hit the nail right on the head dead on so accurate better than i could do it. could use some commas but who cares im a little drunk and the 5 speed stick hasnt killed me yet nor has my petite little 4.2l. but i betcha that a stick is way lotta more efficient than fords automatic in the fifty.

My truck (regular cab 2wd short wheel base) gets around 11MPGs. It does not have 500 HP.

You cant do it.. You can't make 500 with a truck on gasoline and get very good gas mileage.

You can with a diesel truck though. LOL

Gas engines work very well with compresion. Before I started with my project 79 it was getting 12mpg. Its a smogged out 460BB F250 4x4 with no OD.

I have a S&B CAI and Flowmaster SIDO exhaust.

You have much to learn if you think they're only performance mods.

a guy in my division at work has a 92 Dodge with the original 5.9 Cummins. With bigger injectors and a smaller turbo casing (everything else is bone stock), his motor put out so much torque the dyno couldn't even read. He runs 25-30 psi of boost normally. he only made 400ish hp though. that is in a 3/4 ton 4x2 truck with a Dana 80 rear end and a 5 speed. he gets 22+ mpg regularly.

I think he said he had <$1,000 in the project. so, if a motor with that old of technology can put out #'s like that, and still get amazing HP, TQ and MPG, what makes a 500 hp "sport" F-250 so special?

I personally don't like the truck for auction. My reasoning is that it is "rebuilt" titled and the write-up sounds sleazy. And it is kinda ugly. These new body styles favor the Scab and Screw cabs. And yes, I am quite happy every time I step into my 1 of 1,000,000 F-150. I've personalized it somewhat, and will continue to.
