why is my 05 lariat different from a 07 FX2 drive train?

My buddy has a 2007 supercrew short box FX2 with the towing package with 3.55's, I have a 2005 supercrew short box 2wd with tow n 3.55s.
Question is I noticed a few drivetrain differents..
1. is the one piece driveshalf (will that fit our trucks that have the carrier bearing?),
2. is the leaf spring has 3 leafs instead of 4 (is that for towing or comfort?),
3. is this little weight on the driver side rear frame which makes the drop shackle a pain to get to (first though it was just on 2007 Lincoln LT but come to find out my buddies FX2 has the same)
Does anyone know why those 3 things are different on the same size trucks? Does it inprove driving comfort, towing or nothing?

My 05 has 4 leafs and my buddies 07 lariat has 3, I was just looking at that in the shop. Both have 1 piece DS though, but that is the same with all supercabs. The weight is to dampen bed vibrations I believe.

I though thats what the weight was for, is that something that can be added or is it not worth it?
I wish my supercrew had a one piece, I have a one piece on my 2000 and that thing has taken a beating and still is the oem shalf at 216k miles, where my 05 is geting ready for its 4th at 50k (nothing about my driving or rims size) 2000 has been though WAY more then my 05 will ever think of seeing

My 06 has the 1 piece driveshaft and the 3 leaf springs. Don't know about the weight though.

My early built (Nov 04) 05 Supercrew has the 2 piece DS. I was told that it cut down on vibrations.

Yeah I have a early model 05 as well, why would they change to a one piece in the 06 and later models if the 2 piece is suposed to cut down the bed vibrations?? Ford is weird
Also noticted on the 07 that the bump stop hits a extended block and not stright on the rear end, crazy how much they can change the same truck in so little time

I know for a fact that you can change a 2 piece driveshaft truck to a 1 piece. My friend at Ford did it to his truck when he went through 2 carrier bearings and has been fine ever since with no vibration.

My early model 7/03 has the same thing, but apparently it did not get the vibe option.

The block is attached directly to the frame, so i dont see how it could possibly affect bed vibration. It does infact make it impossible to change the shackles without loosening the drivers side (only) leaf pack from the axel and pulling it away from the frame. Absolute pain in the a**.

my 04 has a bigger gap from the top of the bumper to the bottom of the tailgate than my 07. Any reason on that now that's all I see as aproch my 04 from behind.

When I had my 2' drop shackles installed, the guy told me I would not need the wedges to adjust the rear end since i had the 2 piece DS. I had him go ahead and put them in. It rides smoothly.

black, you are one of the lucky ones then. That little block sucks a**, and makes it impossible to remove the leaf to shackle bolt on the drivers side. Its just above the frame and under the bed.
