Mine held up fine for about 9 months until it hit another trucks mirror coming the other direction.

Yes I did, sprayed base coat in the joint but not clear so it would not become to thick and affect the folding of the mirror, besides how often does it show?

painted mirrors look 150% better then the black ones IMO and look like they came that way from the factory.

I did all the prep work myself so i was sure i got a great flat surface for my painter to work with. My buddy did his tahoe at the same time.
Took us a few hours to sand everything, and the guy who does my paint did them overnight in his small shop at home. He works with a big body shop here locally. He charged us $180 for both sets. Which was a better deal then the handles. i did the handles myself too but i went thru the shop to spray instead of him personally and the shop charged me $150 for all five handles.

If you are wanting them to do everything from pulling the mirrors and sanding them your looking at probably around 300-400 dollars for a nice smooth quality job.

i started off with 150 to get all teh texture off. then i went up to 220 to smooth everything out. then did the 3xx grit. i cant remember if its 350 or 360 or whatever.

I used a small aquare sander on all the flat areas, but did the radius by hand.

If you want an extra smooth surface you may want to have the painter wetsand before the final clear. I didnt have him sand at all, and now im thinking of wetsanding my flat areas near the a piller to smooth them out more.

Mine are holding up pretty well so far. A few bigger things have scratched them or knicked them slightly but overall they still look great and I would do it all over again. Just makes the truck look so much nicer IMO.

Someone else hit your mirrors? Damn how many other ppl have had their mirrors busted? Between vehicles on a 06 F150 XLT (rental) an 08 F250 smacked the mirrors. Then i parked out in BFE at a Home Depot and i came back to a trashed mirror on my month old 07 FX2.

Yes someone hit my mirror on a narrow 2 lane rd. After going to the dealer to pickup a replacment I was informed that they keep every configuration of truck mirror in stock, partsman tells me they replace atleast 5 a week and thats just on F-150's so it must be pretty common to knock off the Dumbo ears.
