You would be amazed what gets left in a car as it comes down the assembly line. Assuming that piece doesn't serve some kind of purpose, it's probably just some piece of trim that some one on the assembly line left in your truck.

I work on an Assembly line for Mercedes Benz, and I see this kind of stuff happen everyday.

Or just didn't feel like installing.

Check it for part numbers. You may be able to go to one of the sites that sell Ford parts, put the part number in and at least get a description or name.

That is a gasket between the firweall and transmission hump (clearance) guide. It keep heat from the passenger cabin and if not installed can heat up enough to melt underdash wiring and burn carpet padding and the carpet itself.

Have you smelled any acrid odors on longer trips? Does the AC seem not to work so wel. You know I am only messing around here. i have seen them on trucks with Lariat packages with the center console. that may be why the part was left, it may have been a special order. That is a flat lie too. I just wanna seeif anyone actually reads these longers posts. Im kinda hungry so I gonna get me a big fast Whataburger. Later all.
