As was said, Ford cant void your warranty just because you dont use their filter. The only way Ford could try to force you to use their filter and only their filter is if they provide you with that filter free of charge.
So, your dealer is pretty much full of it.
I agree with the others in asking why you wouldnt want to use a Motorcraft filter. You can buy them at Wal-Mart and most other autoparts stores and they are pretty inexpensive.
Ive used Motorcraft FL820S filter in my F-150 since I bought it in '01 and I see no reason to use anything else. Your engine was designed and tested with that filter and IMO, Ford know what your engine needs better than anyone else.
IMO, an aftermarket company could never have the same experience as the people who actually make the vehicles and do thousands of hours of testing with those engines.

Its not. Look at the 2 filters side by side and you will see why.

Man, am I in trouble! I use nothing but FRAM. Never had a problem with them in over 20 years.

I did... the FL1-A is longer that = more capacity. I didn't notice any difference in threads or seal area. The drain back valve looks identicle too. Lots of times they make a different filter for packaging reasons.. like the larger one won't fit in the location of the chassis. But if the treads and mechanicals are the same on the FL1-A and the FL820s... then it would work... and you would have more filtering media.

Not interchangeable....https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...hp/t-4679.html

Here's some interesting info - scroll down to the "Looking for a Larger Filter to Replace the FL-820S?" section near the end ... http://home.mindspring.com/~ed_white/id7.html

I also heard that this trucks are picky about oil filters and that these trucks have had problems when aftermarket filters are installed. The truck has a 4.6 in it.

Your thoughts.
Motorcraft oil and oil filter is what I use (or at least that is what the dealer claims in the oil changes). It's difficult to beat the price/performance combination of the Motorcraft oil and oil filter AND it's by Ford or at least manufactured to Ford's specifications.

Its all B.S. I ran Wix ever since I had my truck. I had the engine knock (cam phaser) in my 5.4 that I finally got tired of. So I took it back, and they would not look at it because they could not guarante that the Wix met Ford specs. So I let them change my oil and filter and wouldnt you know it, the knock went away.... For about 4 days.. New oil is always quitier.

Regardless, Ford DOES NOT make the filters. They pay someone else to make them and alsp their name on it.. In the end, they just want our money,,

Doesn't everyone. Who cares who makes it, it's what is recommended. If Ford recommended another brand, I'd buy it. Either way someone's getting our money, big whoop.

Just use the Motorcraft filter if your not sure. They're good quality, they don't cost any more then anything else out there and you can find them just as easily as the Fram filters. I've used Valvoline and Quaker state filters with no problems but my preference is Motorcraft.

For a stock truck I'd recommend a FL-820S.

I put a remote oil filter relocator on my truck after I installed an aftermarket skid plate because it was harder to reach the oil filter. I use a FL-1A with the relocator which BTW does have different threads than the FL-820S.

I believe the Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator.

That's a great idea, and it's on more item in my bottomless 'mod' jar lol.

Baja - can you offer any suggestions on which relocator is best? Which one did you use?

Thanks!
