f150 oil filters

I bought a 2007 f150 a few weekes ago. The dealer made it quite clear to me that only motorcraft oil filters be used. They said if any aftermarket filters like fram were used and something went wrong with the engine that ford would not warranty the truck. I also heard that this trucks are picky about oil filters and that these trucks have had problems when aftermarket filters are installed. The truck has a 4.6 in it.

Your thoughts.

You will be happiest with the Motorcraft filter. They have the correct silicon anti-drainback valve in them to keep the engine from rattling on startup. They also seem to do very well in filtration tests etc. Not to mention they are pretty cheap at Wal Mart and auto parts stores.

I've never heard of a warranty company refusing a warranty for engine troubles if a fram oil filter is on there... due to the weird thing called federal law ford (and every other maker) can not force you to use a perticular brand. That is called illegal and can be punishable by a huge fine.

Get them to write it and sign it just as they said and then sue them

EDIT: although I do like the motorcraft filters.

No, Ford can't force consumers to use a certain filter, but better believe that if you have an engine failure and somehow they track it down to an inferior/incorrect/crappy oil filter, it will not be covered under warranty.

Ford just released a dealer level bulletin, explaining to dealers that they've got engines back that were replaced, they disassembled and inspected them only to find that the root cause was a faulty/incorrect oil filter (according to them, what happens is poorly designed anti drain back valves break down and stop up oil passages).

Same here; why use anything else.

Reasonable price, backed by the manufacturer and I can pick them up at Advance Auto Parts along with the Motorcraft 5w20 oil that the factory suggests.

used the Motorcraft FL 820S since mile 0. Still have the rattle on startup. Also ran the correct Motorcraft oil since mile 0.

Is there a filter that has a better anti-drainback valve than the motorcraft?
i.e. K&N, wix, etc...

I would say the problem is not your oil filter. It could be many things. Like piston slap, chain tensioner loosness until the oil gets there and pumps it up, lifters that don't pump up untill the oil gets there... maybe several other things that would cause it. what weight oil do you use?
