Backspace for factory wheels!

I created a thread a few weeks ago asking what the backspace of the factory 18" FX4 wheels was. I had responses ranging from 4.5" to 5.5".

I took one of my wheels of yesterday and measured for myself. It was hard to get an exact measurment with the tire mounted on the rim, but I'm 100% confident that the backspace is between 6 1/16" (6.0625") and 6 1/8" (6.125").

The stock back spacing is 5.5". It would be around 6-6 1/8 if measured from the lip of the rim. But you have to measure from surface where the tire and the rim mate up.

So is this wrong?

1. Turn the wheel face (outside) down.
2. Place a straightedge across the back of the rim as shown.
3. Measure from the bottom of the straightedge to the center of the wheel (where the wheel is bolted to the brake drum or front hub).

Yokohoma, Centerline, & American Racing all say the same thing too.

I got my info from a family member that owned and ran a few tire stores around this area for 30+ years, he had a book that listed the tire/wheel specs for 100's of car and trucks. In the book the back spacing was listed as 5.5" for a factory 18" wheel. I had also asked the dealership when I was going to buy my new wheels, the service manager along with the owner of the dealership (who is a neighbor of mine) both told me that the back spacing was 5.5".

I was going to go and measure mine, but they are sitting in the corner of the garage surrounded by all kinds of things that I don't really feel like moving until I have to.

Here are the measurments. If someone knows for sure how to measure wheel backspace could you please chime in.

PHS79, after reading this post I realize I may have come across as saying you're wrong. That's not how I intended it to sound... I just really want to know the true measurment. No hard feelings... you could be right and I could be wrong.

You can see the first measurment is just under 7 1/8" and the second measurment is just over 1", but the 1" measurment has to be subtracted.

I am sure that I have came across sounding like that at times also, its all good!

As far as how to measure the distance, maybe I just misunderstood the way that Jerry (the family member with the tire shops) was telling me how to take the measurements. Which is very possible since most of the time I only listen to about 1/2 of what I person is saying, and only about 1/4 of what my fiancee says

Oh no, that means when you get married you'll only listen to 1/8 of what she says.
