Has anyone replaced their fuel pump?

I'm going to have to replace my fuel pump. My truck will barely start, when it does start it dies when I give it gas. How hard is the replacement? Has anyone done it themselves? It's going to cost me $693 parts & labor + $100 for the tow there.

That is just my first guess. I unhooked the fuel line going from the gas tank to the fuel filter and started the truck, it ran for a second, but no gas came out, not even a drop.

You can just turn the key ON...without starting.. and the fuel pump should begin pumping. I'd say the fuel pump went Bye-Bye if it's not spraying gas out.

Two straps holding the gas tank up.. with 13mm bolts holding the straps on. Disconnect the fuel filler neck hose. 3 screws inside the door. Disconnect all hoses into the tank and Lower the tank down.

That's most of the work right there. You'll need a floor jack and some pieces of wood to hold the tank in place and lower it.

It might even be easier to unbolt the bed and have 3 of your buddies come over to take it off. Same there... unbolt filler neck and elecrical connections and lift the bed off.

Good Luck

I fixed it!!! Thank god. It was the fuel system deactivation switch. Somehow it got tripped when I was doing the headlight/fog lamp mod earlier.

Go to the right lower kick panel on the passenger side. Remove the panel cover, then look to the left of and behind the fuse box you will see a red button that can be pressed to reset your fuel system.

The switch is used to reset your system in case of a wreck. When you truck senses the impact it automatically shuts down your fuel system to eliminate fire in case your lines were cut or other risks.

Good call. I had the same s#i+ happen on my 92 ranger. Took me about an hour and than after lookin under the hood I saw a sticker that tells you all about the deactivation switch. You sure would have felt stupid dropping 7 bills on something as easy as a red button. I know I would.

Yes I was thinking if I was any lesser of a man I would have paid for the tow to the dealer at least, but I was like F that this can't be that damn hard.
