I just got mine today and installed it, and i have a great use for it, but i need you help! what if i foamed in the console and made a cooler, but i need help with drainage and foaming.... what do you think?

 

I saw this done before in a pre 04 truck, it had been lined and a drain plug had been put in that drained straight under the truck. Pretty cool idea just seems like a lot of work when I can throw a ice chest in the back.

 

That sounds like a good idea except for the fact you would have to drive through the bottom of your truck for the drain plug Would be awesome for long road trips though

 

Yeah, but you would need to add a funnel and tube for peeing, too.

 

Yeah because you could probably fit a 12 pack of beer in there and after about 5 or 6 you'll have to pee

 

you may want to try Hilti's expanding foam. you'll be able to get in every crack with that stuff. If you guys look, once you take the bolts out for the console unit, the holes go right through to underneath the truck. I'm sure in a situation like this you could leave one bolt out and use that hole for the drain.

 

So do you think this project will turn into a huge mess or do you think it will be halfway functional... if i do put a drain in, i know i need to run a tube down through the screw hole and probably seal it... if i did this could i leave it there and still keep the stability of the console? What type of drain should i use? Also, i havent looked, but do you know if the console storage is one big area or seperate pieces?

 

not all XLTs have center consoles so dont c all it an XLT center console

 

That is why the title is "For those of you with xlt center consoles" I did not imply that all xlt's had center consoles, but i simply said everyone with an xlt center console. I have an fx4, but i installed a center console. So in fact when i say "those of you" it implies only the people with xlt center consoles. But needless to say this is not an english class and the point of this thread was not to say that everybody with an xlt center console, but like every other thread it somehow seems to get derailed from its original direction and go off on a tangent. So next time you feel like correcting a mistake you think you have found, please add to the general topic in addition to your off topic comments

So... on that note, can anybody give me any advice? I also thought about wiring in a cooling element similar to those in portable refrigerators and cooling it that way.

 

When i had my XLT i beleive the bolt holes in the cab are visable from the ground. So you could not put in one of the bolts and run a thin wall tube to the ground.

 

sounds like an awsome mod,but i think i would just throw a cooler in the bed and call it a day.but it does sound cool.
