I just don't get the break in thing but whatever, I'm doing it. I mean if you have to break it in, what about the front? If you put 500 miles on the truck with it in 4WD, thats a lot of wheeling. What about a brand new truck? I've never broken in anything other than running it hard with no problems. I can see some degree of break in but 500 miles seems like overkill.

I've had similar thoughts, but good point about the front end. Take a pic of your next best 0-60.

Nice!

Changing gear ratio in the diffs won't do squat diddly for HP/TQ, but it will get the truck moving faster.

Using the Xcal2, you can change gear ratio and tire revs per mile. Even if it doesn't go above 4.56, you can still adjust the speedo by entering a smaller tire size.

Mine is 730 Revs/mile with 4.10's.... Spins pretty fast!

Gears are awesome. The only drawback to the low gears is by the time you turn a corner you're in 2nd or 3rd under light throttle and it can bog the engine a bit sometimes. Took me a week to learn how to drive it again. Now this may have been a complete bs line but the people that installed my gears told me break in was important b/c the aftermarket gears have a coating on them for shelf life and wearing that off during the break in reduces or eliminates whining. Well I'm thinking Ford doesn't cast the stock gear and go right in the axle with it so it must have some "coating" too. I'm guessing they were giving me a line in case it whined a lot probably due to the quality of the install. I have a slight whine above 70mph. Have you rethought putting it back on the dyno with the 4.88's?

I forgot to add, I have no whine. I can't hear it over my tires if there is one so I'm good to go.

Nope, I don't really care what the numbers are to be honest with you.

i'd question the "break in" period as well.

on my last mustang i had 3.73's put in (i know i should have gone with 4.10's) and within 5 mins i RAN it through fourth gear. i probably put around 60k miles on it b4 i sold it and never had a wine or problem with them.

Obviously the gains are going to be greater on a FI truck but there still will be gains.
i would love to know how changing out the gears in the rear would add power from the motor.

your gear ratio has nothing to do with your HP what so ever.all it does is get the power to the rear quicker, becuase it is a quicker ratio.you dont gain any hp,it just feels quicker because your getting the power to the road quicker but your overall top hp will not change.

only reason you may want to put it back on the dyno with your gears is to play with the shift points, but with your set up you may still be able to do that with your edge?idk.
