Fuel gauge slowly rises after fill?

I filled up my fuel tank today from 1/4 and when I started up the truck it didn't move. I drove downtown and back home. When I got back home it was just over 1/4. After going back out again driving over town running some errands it is now at full. I'm going on a road trip next weekend and would very much like a working fuel gauge. I called Ford and they can't get it in the shop in time but they did mention that the Escape and a few other models had trouble with the guage not working and to put Techron in the tank. Anyone heard of this or had this problem before?

How long since you filled up? When I first got my truck, it had been sitting on a lot with 1/4 tank for a month...when I filled it up, it took half of a day for it to rise to full. I think it was something to do with corrosion on the sensor mechanism inside the tank. I put some fuel cleaner in it and it has worked great ever since.

Did you have the ignition on during fuel up? That will cause the gauge to read slower then normal. It can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to start working normally again.

I filled up on Monday and again today. I went for a road trip 3 hours away so I filled up before I left and when I got back. On Monday the guage went up as usual, today not so much.

That happened to me a few months ago after messing with my edge programming. Then never happened again. Don't know what did it. I would imagine just a computer quirk

if the key is in any of the 'on' positions (radio still playing, a/c running etc., re-tuning) the gauge can be really sluggish to respond- if the key was totally out, or off, then i'm not sure whats causing your delay... either way, don't worry- your gas is there and the gauge will eventually come to balance.

A couple months ago I stalled my F150 and I quickly started it, and the gas guage didn't read correctly until about 3 or 4 complete drive cycles. Wierd... tell me about it.

My Escape had the same problem... but it just did it on it's own...

I guess I'll just wait and see. I'm just nervious about this happening before another road trip. For those of you that know B.C. there's alot of nothing for about 2.5-3 hours on the way to Vancouver.
I'll watch the MPG on my Edge and the tripometer to make sure the guage is going down the way it should.
Thanks.

This just happened on my wifes 04 Explorer, filled it up and the guage only went 1/2 way and thats it, took about 2-3 days and it slowly went back up to full. Never had a problem since.

Mine also took some time to move to Full, it stopped a lil before Full and stayed until the next morning when I sent and out. I checked it that morning and it went to full.

I have had the same problem with mine. The dealer recommended putting a couple of tank fulls of Chevron w/ Techron (I guess Shell gas isnt good enough). 2 tanks of Chevron and 3 tanks of Shell later I havent had the problem again. He said it had something to do with corrosion like the bjp207 said and the Techron cleans it off.

Ya, that's the official word from Ford. They used to buy bottles of Techron from Chevron and sell it to their customers but apparintly can't get it anymore. It means I have to wait for this tank to go down enough that I can refill and that means I have to detune my Edge because it's currently programed for Husky/Mohawk's 90 Octane which Chevron doesn't have.

Go to Advanced Auto parts and buy a bottle of RED LINE FUEL CONDITIONER and put it into your tank. I have found it works better than Techron. To much sulfur in the gas your using. The sulfur will foul up the contacts in your sending unit. Good Luck
