Any Lifted Fx2's Out There?
It just doesn't make sense to me when guys who do 90% of their driving in the CITY and who live in parts of the country that are completely FLAT, get 4WD trucks to pound pavement and kill their gas mileage with added weight and drag. 2WD lifted trucks are good for the high speed off roading "baja" type if you will. Come to think of it a lot baja trucks ARE 2WD.

And if you are experienced enough offroading...IN 2WD LIKE YOU SHOULD BE....you won't get stuck....keep it on the gas!

ok.... keep telling your self that..... and then when you get stuck instead of pulling you out ill just drive over you..... in 4x4!!!!! hahahaha

14-15 mpg city
16+ mpg mixed
18-20 mpg highway
4x4 gets less mpg is not true as it was 10 years ago. the only true weight difference is the t-case and front pumkin nowadays. your front end on the 4x2 is the same as my 4x4 in terms of build. I just have that center pumkin and 2 halfshafts. that equals out to about 250lbs...about the wieght of one passenger
besides, what is wrong with having a 4x4 if you don't use it 95% of the time. it's that 5% of the time you do use it, that makes it worth the $ to buy it.
Well guy's living in Miami there's really no place here to go off-roading even if I wanted too. So this will be stricktly for looks. All we get here once or twice a year is heavy rains & some flooding, so I will be clearing those floods with out no problem. I'll stick with my Nitto's 33" that I have on there now. These tires ride incredibly well & quiet. So I will keep you all posted on my lil lift!

edit: is the bumper completely different, or is it just a lower valance?
Yea I think the front end is what really sold it. It was either another Lariat or an FX2. You know I saw one the other day's in the street & the guy had put in some sweet looking chrome tow hooks in the front. Looked pretty neat.
We lift our 2wd trucks for the same reason you 4wd asses lift yours. We just drive on different surfaces so we dont really need 4wd. I lifted my truck so I can prerun certain stages of Baja (which are hard pack dirt), I usually go out to Ocotillo (which is also hardpack) to offroad and ride my bikes. When I go to Glamis I only drive my truck and trailer to camp and park. I never go mudding or hill climbing because there is no place to do it out here in San Diego that I know of. Yes, 4wd trucks can run circles around 2wd's in the mud or deep sand, but most of the time all 4wd drivers are morons and have ni skill at driving at all, they just think "I have 4wd I can go anywhere!". All 2wd trucks have to do is air down the tires and keep momentum and they can keep up with 4wd idiots that cant drive their trucks.

Even if I had 4WD I would never got offroading with it. I would own a 4WD if I were in a snowy climate, but only to avoid getting stuck in the winter. I lifted my truck because it looks damn good, I would say my truck is easy one of the sites best looking.

I thought your truck was 4x2. your're right, it is an awesome looking truck.
hey 04procompLARIAT, there is no reason to be cussin' and calling people idiots. so, can a 4x2 keep up with an experience 4x4 driver? the domain of the 4x2 is the street and dirt/gravel roads. anything more and you're looking to make a fool of yourself. you are right though that many 4x4 drivers cannot drive to save their lives and feel they and their trucks are invincible...they'll learn the hard way that's not true

I'm sure that's exactly what most of those guys were thinking, but sometimes even 4WD can't get you out of the mud.

In our trucks, I completely understand that logic.
There is no such thing as a cheap fix. After my last 4x2 and the traction issues it had, I will never buy a 4x2 again. I'd rather have 4x4 and never use it, than need it and not have it. This last winter I couldn't even get out my driveway without the 4x4 in both of my trucks. I had to drive 1-2 miles in 4x4 before the roads were clear enough to drive in 4x2. Even then, 4x4 was still safer than 4x2. And that was in the middle of town and on Base.
When I offroad, I'm not worried about the paint so much as crushing my fenders or sliding off the trail and destroying a body part.
There is a ORV park nearby called Tahauya State Park. It used to be a nice safe 4x4 area where you could get your truck dirty and have a little fun. Things got tight at times, but a stock 4x4 (of any brand) could play and not get broke. Heck, a 4x2 could play in almost every part of it.
Recently a bunch of rock-headed Jeepers went through with a backhoe and chainsaw. This is now a "Difficult" trail according to those in the bizz and only has 1 entrance and 1 exit, and the trail is directional with ledges and other pits to prevent backtracking. It didn't look that bad at first, but 3 hours later I finally got out. I peeled my skid plates in a few places, and there are some interesting scratches on the truck. I also learned that my truck is quite capable while on 2 wheels. Lesson learned, so, I'll keep my truck looking pretty until it's paid for and out of warranty, then I'll lift her and have some trail fun.
