? for you guys with lifts and spacers

before i start i would just like to say that this forum is awesome.... alrighty so iv'e had my fabtech on my truck for about 3-4 months, but i want to go bigger so i called a local lift shop and asked about adding a leveling kit. the guy said i would need a new driveshaft and all together it would cost a grand... any one with this kind of setup have any problems with the back driveshaft and how much did you guys pay for this setup cause i was just thinkin about ordering the leveling kit myself and maybe a add-a-leaf for the back. seems cheaper

Just a spacer wont need a longer driveshaft. 6" lift and spacer may or may not need one. You can try it without the longer driveshaft and see if you get a vibration problem. If you dont then great. If you do you can have it lengthened and balanced, you dont need a new one.

First off, adding the spacer will cause a lot of bumpster.. If you add the spacer, most likely you will have to extend the front brake lines. Also ther is no need to extend the driveshaft..

I think Tex is right about the brake lines, but the 6" Fabtec kit should come with extended lines in the first place....so your brake lines should be fine with a leveling kit....

Check the classifides on this site for the leveling kits....AutoSpring seems to be the most popular kit (I have this one and love it), but make sure to check that this kit is applicable with your existing Fabtec...Ebay is another option for the leveling kits...._motes

That is very, very cheap.

The rock-bottom price I was quoted - after searching for a couple of weeks - for a leveling kit was $380.00 installed.

Thanks man..

The truck rides a lot stiffer with the spacers on.. I will be upgrading to the dirt logic coilovers though.. A lot of bumpsteer also..

let me ell you from experience - i have a procomp 6" coilover lift with 2" spacers and an add a leaf....no driveshaft extensions and nothing more than what came with the pro comp kit.....i installed the spacers and add a leaf myself in a weekend...i say weekend because the front spacers took like an hour and half and the rear add a leaf took me the rest of the weekend -it was a beeotch - really hard to compress the leafs and align them with the blocks using a floor jack and visegrip clamps....beware of the possible damage on the front ball joints....mine are getting a little worn now from the extreme upper a arm angle caused from the addition of the spacers...but other than that no probs...only tons of complements (see gallery)

I just added a leveling kit to my stock FX4 suspension. I'm wondering what you guys mean by bumpsteer? Since the kit, I notice when I make fairly sharp turns, (pulling in and backing out of a parking spot, and turning into a driveway) I am hearing and feeling a popping coming from the front wheels. Im getting it checked out this afternoon, but is that what you guys are talking about?

Bumpsteer is usually referring to the sterring wheel wanting to jerk when you hit a bump in the road or pot hole or something like that.

Found the problem. The rear bolt in my lower control arm was loose enough to allow the bolt to move during sharp turns. I had the front wheels realigned and made sure the bolts were good and tight this time before pulling it off the rack. Everything works great now!
