Driveshaft experts, jump on in....

I have the infamous clunk on takeoff. I crawled under the truck and noticed some leakage from the output shaft seal.....it seems I'm leaking grease or fluid or something. Might I have a bad seal? Also I noticed the shiny part of the output shaft coming out about a 1/2 inch out from where the black seal starts. Seem to me it's exposed to much. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Hmm that sounds a little akward. . . didn't you remove the rear 2" blocks? How bad is it leaking? A little seeping is normal, or so I've been told. What color is the fluid, red?

Warranty up? If not, don't mess with it, take it to the dealer.

I did remove the blocks....good memory looks like a slow leak...it's black in color. The leak trail starts outside the output shaft seal and runs toward the front of the truck over the transfer case. Nasty clunk and I'm thinking this leak or partly thereof is causing the clunkage.

The shiny part is normal. You should have a finished section of the slip yoke poking out of the tranny seal. When the rear of the truck is loaded or you hit a big bump, that part will slide into the tranny. You need a finished surface so that you dont damage the seal.
