I would like to know how anybody here can tell where the fire started at from that one picture, yes it looks like it started near the battery but It doesn't look like the battery exploded to me either.
It still sucks that your truck burned up but 45 minutes to put it out?
I saw a Escort burn up in less then 15 minutes and it burned all the way to the back window before the fireman put it out.
Scared the crap out of me as I was running by it to move my car and trhe front tire popped.

when you work in a shop you see some obvious totaled cars, but they still need an estimate to reach a percentage of it's value to total it, then the car can sit there for a week or a month till the salvage co. comes to get it. so guys like me like to figure out what happened and sometimes get to talk to forensics investigators....also our hoods are aluminum, melts fast... windshield, glass & plastic half gone , dash board plastic mostly intact ,everything under right side of hood melted.....pattern forming, and yes our core supports are magnesium, VERY hard to put out when burning ( I saved one from a wreck, pretty cool) and from the looks of the front end it didn't get that far..also the hood is ripped open cause the firemen probably pried the hinge loose to put it out, do you want to go into a burning smoke filled vehicle to find a hood release... nope... looks to me like the battery is probably not bad looks like some thing on the firewall, (ecm)...not to be a jerk...just seen alot. Can ya get any more pics... sorry about your loss again...Pattrik..

There have been a few problems with the 04+ body style with the center console with an electrical short. My girlfriends aunt has a 04 King Ranch and the wires melted in the console and almost caught fire. Good luck!!!

I don't think they made a 04 King Ranch F150.

I think a little bit of wax and that your truck will be good to go.

All kidding aside. Sorry to hear/see this. Just and unecessary hassle in your life. Hopefully it all gets sorted out quickly for you.

So thats what it looks like under there when all the plastic is gone!sorry
I thought that blanket on the top of the hood was some kind of fire retardant. The fire was supposed to melt the plastic clips, releasing the cloth. Or was someone just pulling my chain....again?

[QUOTE=tiny1]As chief of an all volunteer fire dept. with no in quaters crew, all that I can say is 45 minutes?????

OK, I may have exagerrated a little. I was a little excited that night watching my baby burn. lol. It seemed like it took forever for the fire to be put out. In reality, I think it may have took around 15-20 minutes for them to finally finish hosing it down. The whole night was a blur.

Yes there was a magnesium burn because I could see bright white light behind the grill and it kept sparking underneath.

My insurance company finally towed it yesterday and now I have to fill out an afadavit and I'm guessing it won't be till next week before I get a determination on whether it's totalled. I certainly hope they total it because I really don't want the truck back if they have to do that much work to fix it plus I'm guessing the resale value will drastically be lower.

I'm guessing the F-150 has a good firewall between the engine compartment and the interior. I was also surprised there wasn't more damage to the interior. However, the interior now smells like burnt plastic from the smoke.

I know what you mean as I have been on the side of waiting for the fire trucks and the crews to get on scene. Any emergency situation seems to take forever but in actuallity it is only a few minutes.

Good luck with the insurance company and I agree with you, I hope that they total it for you.

Not to change the subject and if I'm incorrectly posting, please tell me.

Since I no longer have my truck, I'd like to sell my SuperChips performance tuner for my 5.4L F-150. Does anybody know if I can reset it back to default without having my truck? Do I need to contact SuperChips? Not even sure if it can be done but if anybody has any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
