Exclamation Ticking Noise...not Engine Related

ALright so i have noticed over the past few days that I have a ticking noise that seems to be coming from underneath. I hear it when I have my tires against something where I can't move without force. It usually occurs at around 900 rpms and goes away above 1100-1200 or so. When i hang my head out my window it seems to be coming from underneath somewhere. It occurs in 2wd and 4wd...

any ideas?

FYI 2005 s-cab xlt 5.4 4x4.

Have you checked your tires for rocks or nails?

Kinda had something like that in my truck and it ended up being the injectors. I took it in and had it fixed under warranty.

Sounds like it may be an exhaust leak. Just fixed one on my 06 with 15,000 miles on the odomoder that Ford said there was nothing wrong with and even if there was since I changed the muffler all the way in the back....my warranty was void anyhow!! Flare on the collector pipe was bad from the factory and cracked over half way around the radius of the pipe just below the flare. Local guy fixed it for $100.00. Debating on making the service manager at my local stealership have a sandwich out of it or not. Sounded like ticking on mine.....about the same rpm range.

Does it sound like a heat shield rattling against the exhaust? Mine does this. It is especially noticeable in a drive-thru or up against a wall if I try to creep forward and when it is loaded a little bit and in that RPM range, sounds just like a heat shield rattling away. I have NO idea what it is though......

My father in law just had his tranny pulled from his 05 (under warranty) because of a ticking problem. Not sure what finally fixed it, but it was definately transmission related. I'll try to ask tomorrow. I guess the guys at the dealer had heard about his issue before.....

Finally got around to asking him. They first diagnosed it as the valvetrain making noise. Took it to someone else and they said it was in the tranny. They ended up replacing needle bearings and the noise went away.

Thanks for the info. I'll take it to the dealer sooner or later when I get a spare day and I will report back
