My Truck Was Stolen And Its Damaged!

Hey,
I had a bad weekend, friday night i went over to a friends house, and within 10 minutes my truck was gone. They found it about 25 minutes away in a ditch. I was able to see it last night at the police station, it looks like they went mudding, hit fence posts, through barbwire, broken mirrors, shattered drivers side window, and several dents and scratches everywhere. Any it looksl ike they punched in the gauges. I have no idea if its totalled, I wont know for awhile. I really like my truck, so it really sucks. I just put new leather in in (which dont' appear damaged), and alot of exterior chrome. They had to redlined it a ton, how can you find out how bad they did? Like i mean, the condition of the engine? They say it runs, but thats all I know at this moment because its in evidence. I really want the truck back, and get it fixed back up, but I dont want it back if its going to blow up in one month? Does ford have a way of plugging it in and being able to tell? I will get pictures posted when I get them. All hope would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!

dude that sucks!
If someone stole my truck and wrecked it i would rather it be totaled. Hopefully if it is you can get some of your mods off of it and put it on a new one

also, what is the redline limit? cause mine doesnt show one

I had my 2002 F150 Lariat stolen from me while I was at work. Was the WORST feeling to come out, start walking toward where you parked and the truck isn't there. Was like a piece of me was ripped out. The truck was never found and I got the insurance money and bought my FX4.

I totally know how you must feel, I would just hope that it can repaired. If you had alot of aftermarket stuff, insurance will not cover those costs, or if they do you will get about 10% of what you paid. If they do repair it, i'd sell it right after. Either way repaired or totalled, good luck bro.

I'm curious to know how these immobilizer equipped vehicles are being stolen. My public insurer is touting immobilizers as being the holy grail of anti car theft. Just some personal

Yeah it was the worst feeling ever, especially when you really like the truck and take good care of it. Yesterday all day I felt like i had the flu, but i think it was because I was so pissed off. I am not shure what I will do, as I know the truck is never going to be the same as it was, who knows what they all did to it! I will be shure to add some photos when its back.

oh yeah, i was going to ask, how odd does this sound. I have this truck, and a 95 dodge neon that i drive the distance i need to drive every day. They are always parked by eachother, and it seemed like everytime i would grab the wrong keys or forgot where I put them and would always be running around looking for them. So when I lock my vehicles, i through the keys in the gas cap door, ive done it for over a year. Thats where my keys were when it was stolen? Am I a complete idiot, or does anyone else do that ? (PS. , i live in a small town, this is very rare to happen)

I was wondering the same thing. If you don't have the correct key, then the truck isn't going to start. It will turn over but not crank. I just don't understand how people are getting their trucks stolen unless they left the key for the thieves. If that is the case, then it's their own fault. I know, down here in NC the cops are actually going around the parking lots and leaving notes for people telling them that their valuables are left in plain sight. I can see a vehicle getting broken into, but not stolen with the new systems that are in place.

I'd say its probaby not a good call... Sometimes I will leave my keys on my tire at home but I live in small town, in gated community, on a gated property. I would think you probably wouldn't want to tell your insurance company that either. Probably going to want to keep the keys inside. If someone saw that you were putting your keys in there that could have been it...

I was wondering that as well, I've heard of BMW's getting snagged in Europe and ending up all over Russia. Friend of mine is a BMW tech and claims it's impossible to start one without the key. Everything has a backdoor, wondering what the weak link of the PATS system is. Not to advertise it, but to back it up with something a bit stronger. I'm a firm believer that aftermarket alarms are a waste so that's no option for me, nothing but a noise making deterrent which are sold on paranoia or cool gadget. That is just my opinion, not trying to argue the point.

In any case, sorry to hear about your truck wingmanscooters, I know the feeling, had a car ripped off and totalled years ago...I'll never forgot that feeling.

yeah i know it was dumb of me, but i live in (let me rephrase) A VERY SMALL TOWN, its a small pretty much farm town, e verybody knows everybody. I have had stuff stolen before, actually alot, but they caught those people that did it , same two people that stole everything in the town, and that was years ago. its just something that don't happen.

About the PATS and vehicle getting stolen.... Thought remote start was going to be the coolest thing. Had to get a key programmed, un-cut, and put in a box which was located on the steering column so the remote start would work without the key in the ignition. Well that also means that you can pop the lock and drive off since the PATS key is there in the truck. That being said, i will never get remote start like that again (unless its different now).

Hey wingman, I feel your pain. I'm going through the same thing right now. I thought these trucks couldn't be started without the key, but I guess we're all finding out otherwise. I would take the truck to your dealer and have them go over it. That's what you have insurance for. Mine was supposed to be towed back up here last week, maybe this next week. I'm going to have Ford go over it completely, and make it so expensive that insurance will just total it.

Yes with my code alarm 670 and the bypass it makes the remote start possible without having a key up in the dash. And without a key in the ignition when you press on the brake you car shuts off.

I guess that must be it. There are thousands of vehicles out there with remote starters and a good majority of them must have a key taped under the dash for it to work. It has to be almost even money that a thief will attempt to steal one using this system.
