Was about to have a IVA-W200 installed tomorrow until I looked at this unit. iPod control is my primary need. Really love the look of the click wheel on this unit. I just hope the new direct connection is as fast as the Alpine.

$880 Preorder: http://www.tundraelectronics.com/car...ion-87999.html

$950 preorder through Cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIOAVI...m_term=avic-d3

Might be able to get them to pricematch tundraelectronics???

Good unit at that price point, however, it still gets beat out by the Pioneer Z1/Z2.

The problem with the D3 is the navigation is DVD based and thus you can't play a DVD and use the nav at the same time. Not a problem for some, but for example on long road trips, I use the nav on my z1 hard drive while the girlfriend watches a dvd.

The upgrade that was just released for the Z1 (free from pioneer) is supposed to improve the speed of the iPod controls.

I thought with the DVD Nav you can load up the area you are in and take out the DVD. That would allow you to use drive for something else besides the NAV.

D3 has a direct connection for the iPod over the Z1.

I've never heard of being able to do that with a DVD nav. It uses the DVD to select the route after you put in the parameters. It would have to query the DVD for the POI of best route. There is no way the DVD can "load" to the system with all the POIs for your state or even region. It would have no where to put it. Unless they have a flash based memory installed, which would be the dumbest thing to have in cold weather.

It's most likely like every other DVD nav unit in that if you want to pick a route or search for a POI, then you need to have the DVD in.

Since it has a direct connection to the iPod that will also help it be cheaper then the Z1. Although I don't think the upgraded Z1 is all that slow with the iPod.

This is a more affordable solution for those who can't fit or afford the Z1.

Pioneer is the OEM for the Ford nav unit that is in the F150 and other vehicles, I saw their label on the back of the unit in some of the pictures. I like this unit better than the factory nav unit and it has more features, like the ipod controls. If they come out for under a grand they will be a great deal.
