Hey all, I have been throwing around the idea of which toolbox to get for my truck. I have been searching around and know i want a UWS but which one, low-profile (like thumpers) or a chest/wedge box (like tardman's). Im not much for the lose of bed space w/ the chest box, but like that it is concealed. Im also not much for the exposure of the low pro, but like i can still cram stuff in the bed, and the fact that it doesnt block the rear window much. So low pro or chest? and black or polished? Im hoping you guys can give me some good advice or make up my mind for me!

 

I went with a black low-pro UWS. Didnt want to lose bed space, and the low-pro box is still big enough for me to haul all my tools and recovery gear. Plus, I still have plenty of room underneath it to haul lumber or anything around.

 

I got a 40 something inch chest style toolbox and I really did not lose all that much bed space. I have a 6.5' bed and this weekend with the tool box in the bed and pick up some 8' sheetrock and it stuck out over the tailgate by about 6" inches. So its not so bad having the chest style box..

 

I've got the low profile UWS chrome toolbox and I love it. I didn't get the extra deep box because I still need to pile some stuff up in there and it allows for that. I don't have any regrets about this toolbox, I love it!!

 

Im liking the low pros, hopefully some more folks w/ the chest boxes will ring in.

 

I went with the deep, UWS low profile in black.

I have a smaller one that sits in the bed it is for a small size truck so it allows me to put stuff on the sides of it I love it and its polished.

 

i dont know how much the uws one is, but i just went to lowes the other weekend and picked up a black one thats identical to the uws low profile, and i LOVE IT. With an install kit that keeps from having to drill into the rails, it came out to 320 with tax. Not super cheap but not too bad, i was having a hard time finding a low profile black one....

 

I actually saw a truck the other day that had the low pro UWS in it, and there wasnt really that much room between the bottom and the bed. Kinda made me think of just goin w/ the chest box. The only time i have seen one of the UWS chest boxes was in a chevy 2500 HD and he had the long bed, so naturally it looked good cause he really didnt lose as much bed space as i will be. . Thanks for the help guys, anyone else wants to chime in please do so. . .

 

I have a chest box that i put on risers so i could still slide stuff under it.



I was able to get three sheets of 3/4" plywood in the bed with the ends a few inches under the box then we just lifted the sheets up closed the tailgate and they didn't move at all. So it definitley make s a difference.

 

Go with my box. It's bad-***. I can still carry 8 foot pieces of stuff in there when I need to. Where there's a will, there's a way.

 

mine is the same as tardman's, just not a uws

i went with the chest b/c with the truck lifted like it is it's not like you can lean over the bed and get something out. you can just barely lean over and open it up.

Seems like he got the deep low-profile box, but if you're worried about room underneath the box, why in the world would you get the chest style? . . you can't fit anything under them.

 

thats true, either way im goin to lose bed space, but w/ one i can still slide stuff under. Im goin to go ahead and get the chest box in black. Thats goin to look like one small bed w/ a toolbox and bed extender Now if i could only get payed every two weeks instead of 3. . Thanks for all the help guys!
