The kit that costs $260 more is the one you want. The tuner kit is the one that does not come with the Whipple tune. That looks like a good price on the Whipple kit, I've seen them elsewhere for over 6 grand for the black kit, and I think Whipple sells them for a little more than that.

You'll definately have fun with the stock 8psi kit. From what I've heard from a variety of different sources is that our stock internals are good for up to 450 RWHP. I'm running at that or higher in colder temps, and have not had any problems. I haven't mashed on it since getting my 4.56 gears yet though, I'm looking forward to the roads thawing out, but that's another month away. So far so good though, I've got roughly 12000 miles on the truck with the supercharger.

When Whipple was asking me questions for the stock tune, they asked about the gear ratio's, tire size, other mods, then they went on to ask how I wanted the shifts, firm, soft, etc. The tune is actually pretty mild straight from Whipple. It has to be that way since Ford Racing has their name stamped all over it as they are the ones that develop the tune with Whipples help. You can definately draw more power from the 8psi kit with a custom dyno tune and go more aggressive. If you keep the stock speed limiter, you'll probably dyno out in the 330-350 range. If you lose the limiter and can get up to speed on the dyno, I'd expect you'll be in the 350-370 range.

Irrelevant, but it is kinda sad that with new cams and heads on 4.6 3v can make around 360HP to the wheels. :o

05RoushMarkLT: How is your transmission holding up to that power and what did Whipple do for your fuel system? Did they change the size of the injectors or add a boost a pump or change the size of the lines? It would be pretty amazing if our stock pump lines and injectors could feed that much rwhp!

Do you let your truck shift WOT? If not, that could be why your trans is still holding up if its still stock.. great setup for a pickup in my opinion.

I think the STS under truck trubo kit is a cool idea since we have so much room under the truck but for *me* driving through fields and mud as a duck hunter i'm bound to mess up the system and ruin the pipes. The only power adder for a heavy truck like ours is a roots/twin screw or a turbo, I'd never do a centrifugal supercharger like a Paxton/ATI/Vortech.

Your "local" shop probably doesn't sell whipple, but they sell magnacharger.

I'd get the whipple. It doesn't mean hill, but I really like their setup. Have you been to their site? You should if you haven't.

That is the magnacharger just repackaged by Steeda. I have the magnacharger on my truck and am not biased one way or another but it is alot cheaper and it comes with everything you need including colder plugs and a tune. On the other hand the whipple has much more potential and if you decide to turn up the wick then it will support it no problem. For reference my truck put down 350 rwhp on 7.5 psi and am in the midst of working on a 10 psi tune. So not quite where the whipple is but still respectable for approx $1500 less. Dont let the price make up your mind though and good luck with whatever you get.

The svt guys that I raced with ( Lightning sold Last week) are all going with the whipple and they are getting big power.

I am thinking of a whipple next year for my 07 regular cab. with the 4.6, a whipple and a local dyno tune i am told to expect around 480 rear wheel hp.

My old 5.4 with mods was more, but this is still good. some of the cobra 32 valve, 4.6 with injectors, pumps etc, are getting around 560-600 hp rear wheel. I sort of followed what those guys were doing but not 100% sure what all they are doing.

That's a great setup: the magnuson/Steeda is basically an Eaton 112 which is what Ford put on the Lightning and 03-04 Cobras so your basically building a modern day lighting w/ 3v heads. On the Cobra's that supercharger maxed out about 460rwhp and ported they max out about 500rwhp maybe a little more if you overspin them. The Whipple/twin-screw won't make quite as much torque if the supercharger is pullied to only make call-it 400rwhp or less than the Eaton/Roots supercharger. Not crazy about that rear-drive pulley setup, that may be the ultimate limitation as to whether it will produce the same results as the L/Cobra crowd saw, the front entry for the air to that Eaton 112 is better than it ever was for the L or the Cobra.. So for me if I knew I wasn't ever going to want to go over 400rwhp I'd get that Eaton in a heartbeat and have a pulling/hauling beast of a F150. If there was a chance I'd get HP greedy I'd be concerned that when I pullied up the rear pulleys would slip and I couldn't easily engineer my way around it so for that reason I'd get the Whipple over the Eaton/Magnuson/Steeda.

I save all my mods for my Cobra and now THIS! DANG IT! I sold my Powerstroke for this truck and the towing performance sucks, 400/400 tq/hp rear wheel would fix that! I think the contributors to this thread should be obligated to chip in somehow, I'll setup a paypal acct now..
