Dealers not "dealing" as much as I would think.

2007 Lariat Screw 139" WB Black leather/floor console.
Options:
Preferred package 508A.
3.73 LS, and Tow package.
20" 6 spoke machined aluminum wheels.
P275/55r20 OWL all terrain w/ Pirelli tires.
Sticker $ 35,525.00
"Fleet" price $33,207.00
Retail customer cash $3,000.00 (not available if you take special rates)
or
.09% 36 months, 1.9% 48 months, 2.9% 60 months
So if you take the cash back and apply it to the truck its $ 30, 207.00
Needless to say I walked out of the dealership.

I may be missing something here, but it sounds like a pretty good price to me. Does it have the 5.3? I have the luxury package, 6.5 bed, and a few other options, but back when I bought my truck the sticker was 42,500. Of course that is not what I paid, but from your numbers it looks like prices are going down.

Here lies Ford's & GM's problem. A potential customer is upset about paying LESS THAN sticker. No wonder they can't turn a profit. Ford is this close to bankruptcy. Last news update I heard is Ford is not expecting a profit until 2012. First you need to bring the quality up to the new market standard which people tell me is Toyota. I personally think Toyota's are so far over-rated it's sickening but that's my opinion. Then you have to have your customers pay the sticker price or lower the price to a point that a customer will pay for it without complaining. Somewhere along the way, Ford & GM become synonymous with rebates. It's now to the point where no one will actually pay sticker for anything either company makes. From what I understand, the Corvette is the ONLY GM made that the dealers don't "deal" on.

If you get any vehicle out the door for less than MSRP or invoice didn't you get a good deal?

Not necessarily. A product (in this case, a vehicle) is only worth what the market will bare. And in today's market, the market price of a new Ford or GM vehicle is well under what the manufacturers suggest (via MSRP). Deciding if an offer from a dealer is a "good deal" is a personal opinion. For some, anything under MSRP is a "good deal". For others, paying MSRP and getting a free DVD entertainment system is a "good deal". For me, a "good deal" is paying slightly less than what the market currently demands for a product... A manufacturer or dealer can ASK whatever price they want. But they will only GET what the market will offer. That is, unless they sell it to a sucker!

If you buy at MSRP then you got taken.

If you buy below invoice you are getting close.

It is all about supply and demand.

I just bought a Honda Pilot for my wife...I heard..."Honda dealers don't deal".

I got it for 5k less than sticker.

All dealers deal...walking out was probably right.

Use edmunds and have quoted emailed to you then play the dealers against each other.

Well, it should be but since there are only few brands that stick by their MSRP. . ie: Mini Cooper.

I personally think that it is fair deal. Good at least, Fair at worst. That's probably right at $2,000 over invoice, not counting any dealer holdback. Maybe you are thinking of higher rebates? Wait until the 08's are out. I think the lowest you could get right now is 28,700-29,999, but that would likely be tough. When the 08's arrive you may be able to get that same truck for 26-27k?

Anyway, you are not getting screwed. Just my $.02.

Man, not sure why you walked out. That price is lower than employee pricing for a 07'. Sticker on my 07' was like 42k and change and invoice was around 37k. I walked out paying 500 under invoice minus the 3k cash back

2WD correct? When I got my truck I was able to talk them down from a $36k sticker to $29.5k, and it was then a very new model 06' purchased in mid December of 05'. So I think that you are very close to your lowest bargaining price for now without any special plans.

All these replies prove my points. If you know in advance your vehicle is not worth what the sticker says, then why on earth do you even bother to print the sticker? I'm not trying argue with anyone just pointing out a weakness in the vehicle market.

You don't walk into Best Buy & demand a TV for large $$$ under sticker. If they have a sale, you pay sale price, if not, you pay what the tag says.

You don't walk into Sears & say I'm buying that Kenmore Vacuum for $150 when the tag says $200.

You don't go into Foot Locker & demand 25% off a pair of brand-new-for-this-season ____________(insert useless ghetto as$ b-ball player name here) b-ball shoes. You pay what the tag says.

You don't go into Lowes & tell the lumber guy you aren't paying sticker for 3/4 plywood, you pay what the tag says.

This is exactly why the US vehicle manufacturers are heading for oblivion. MB is getting ready to dump Chrysler since they haven't turned a meaningful profit since the hostile take-over.

Sure you do, done it on a few TVs matter of a fact as well as computers.

around invoice +/- $500 is usually a decent deal, and then subtract any rebates from there.

Honda dealers deal some. They probably deal more on the SUV's just to move them, because they usually have special low interest rates for them, but never for Accords/Civics. I bought a new Accord last year for my fiance and was able to get it for $750 under invoice, or $3k off msrp sticker.

Is this the truck you're referring to? If not, at least the MSRP is the same, so it should be the exact same configuration that you're looking at... As you can see, the X-Plan price is $32,502 minus the $3000 in rebates... So for me, I would buy it at the X-Plan price, and not a penny higher. Worst case is you could ask around the forums, and I'm sure somebody would give you a PIN for the x-plan.
