Mag-Lights are POS's

Im sure some of you gun owners/police/military have heard of Surefire. At Bass Pro you can get there G2 Nitrolon for around 30 bucks. It is easily 2 to 3 times as bright as a 3 D cell maglite, has a perfect beam spread and is about 4 inches long. It runs on CR123 Lithium Batterys that have a 10 year shelf life.

It would solve all your storage issues. You could even step up to the higher and more expensive lights at get up to 250 lumens and with the turbo relector shine to about 100-150 yards. Quit wasting money on ****ty mag-lights, you won't be disappointed with SUREFIRE.

They can get really expesive up to around 400 dollars... There LED lights are awsome, many are rated for tactical use which means at least 90 lumens. They are so bright they can actually be use to disorient attackers etc.

I personally will never by another brand flashlight again. I have around 8-10 of there different series of lights the batterys get kinda expensive, but if you buy from them it is much cheaper than $11 for two at CVS.

The kicker is the machined and anodized aluminum on the nicer models... sweet!

It sounds like you know a lot about their products. What do you think is the best for a budget of around $100-150?

They are all good lights. Just depends on whether you want LED or Incandesant bulbs, But all of these are in your range. The only exception is the Aviator. It is around $200 on their site. But it has a "normal" bulb that is surrounded by LED's. A slight push of the tail cap lights only the LED and full preassure lights the main bulb.

A couple of Incan's:
G2 Nitrolon
6P Original
Z2 Combatlight

Led's:
A2 Aviator
c3 Centurion
L4 Lumamax
E2L Outdoorsman

I would check there dealer site, there may be shops/ gun shops local to you that have them at non manufactures price, although the website is close to what you would pay in a store. Bass Pro also stocks most of the other lights, at least the one by me does.

Truthfully, for the first light, I would just get the G2 Nitrolon, The high-power upgrade bulb and a box of batterys for the 100 buck. ( Of course the H.O. bulb only has a battery runtime of about 20 minutes)

BTW, I don't work for Surefire or anything, I have had a couple of ocupations that I had to rely lights for my saftey. I have just found these to be the very best you can buy.

Surefires are nice -- I have a similar one as well -- but, the battery life isn't that great (when on) and battery replacement is kind of pricey.

Also, there are documented cases (so I've been told) of Surefire-type lights getting accidently engaged while in a glove box or console and heating up to the point of ignition... I realize that could be true for ANYTHING with a power source but, having a Surefire, it definitely heats up rapidly...

No arguments on the light output on Surefire vs. Mag -- surefire wins hands down no questions - but, when it comes to battery life, price, and a better level of safety --- well, I'll stick with the Surefire for certain things and a Mag in my truck.

I tried to PM you as not to highjack this thread but.........

It did require a very small amount of trimming in the area where the tow hooks were, those little upper pieces on the valence that fill that in. Just a little round around int he corners and it fits fine. I don't know why they would change the bumper that small amount in that area but it must be different. Nothin to hard though, I think I just did it with a file.

I agree hands down. I find myself not using my surefire because I don't want to use up the batteries!

so i am looking to buy a mag and i can't decide what i want or need rather. i don't know if i should get a rechargeable or nonrechargeable one....i'd rather not spend $100 for a surefire, atleast right now. how do the rechargeable ones wear. i just don't want it to get the point where it only holds the charge for like 10 minutes after a year.

maglite

If u buy a maglite i recommend the rechargeable. The nonrechargeable maglite doesn't last as long and after several times of buying a pack of D cell batteries u could have bought a rechargeable. I've had mine for 6 yrs now i just bought a new battery pack and cradle for it soldered it into my truck and it works great. I've had both types of maglites and wished i had bought a rechargebale sooner. I've prob used mine for over an hour nonstop. My Maglite has been to the desert and back, Iraq a couple times and a few other places, If i leave the house its prob in the truck or in a bag. I have a Surefire too and they r extremely bright but they do not last long at all. Oh and one more thing the rechargeables r brighter than the nonrechargeables and they both work good as hammers on small stuff, might have to replace the bulb though.

Later,
Joel

What do you think is the best for a budget of around $100-150?
The Surefire L2 I think would be an excellent choice. You get two light levels - 15 lumens and 100 lumens. If you are going to keep it in your truck the 15 lumen is really handy. Even the G2 at 60 lumens can be too bright depending on what you are doing, like looking at a map or directions without lighting up your whole cab or having too much light reflecting back at you. Even around a campfire it can be too bright. You get a fair amount of runtime with the lower output but then you have the blinding bright light if you need to "spot" something at a distance.

I'm a bit of a flashlight nut, so I always have one or another in my pocket. The G2 is great to leave in the console/glove box with an extra set of batteries. If you need it a couple years later you can count on it still working because of the lithium batteries. Pretty much all the Surefires, including the G2, have lockout tailcaps now, so a couple turns and it won't be able to be accidentially turned on.

You can normally buy these lights for about 20% less than the price on the Surfire website. Also you can get the batteries for as little a $1 each.

Sorry for the contiued hi-jack, but I couldn't resist.

I keep a surefire L4 lumamax in my truck, it's an LED, really small (less than an inch wide and about 4 inches long), decent battery life (at least 1+ hours), and bright (100 lumens).
imo the best one for the price
but still pricey

Surefire sure is expensive. Mag's are relatively cheap and double as a club

I replaced my 3D cell maglites "stock" bulb w/ one of their LED bulbs and it was a drastic improvement.
