F-150 Fuel Mileage??
F-150 Fuel Mileage??
I have a 2005 KR with the 17,500Miles, 5.4L 3Valve, ABout 2 Months Ago my Gas Mileage on the Highway went Down Hill. I went from 17-18mpg at
69-72mph to 15-16mpg
at anything over 62mph. Any Ideas what could be Making this Happen????
I have not made any Changes to this Vehicle in the Last Year.
Thanks. KR Paul

This has a lot to do with my lift, but wind is an ENORMOUS factor in my mileage. If it's a headwind I lose about 6-7mpg and can't get over 13mpg no matter how I drive. I usually get around 19-20mpg at 53-55mph. Drafting behind big rigs is my solution, and a great way to find out if it's the wind causing the decrease in mileage. Along with driving the opposite direction

You can always try changing your fuel filter, it's not that expensive to do, it's possible you may have gotten a few tanks of bad gas and clogged it up a bit... When you take it off try and blow through it, you will know right away if that was contributing to your problem with loss of mileage...

It's typical to lose 1-2 MPG in the winter due to the winter gas mix and to colder temperatures. Don't forget the air pressure in your tires drops about 1lb for every 10 degress colder it gets. I'll lose 1 MPG on the highway driving with 32 lbs in the tires instead of the (on the door jam) recommended 35.
The MPG you posted isn't all that bad for the winter.

I’m not too sure about this “winter blend” stuff, but obviously it could be different in every city. I live in the Chicagoland area and have never seen a difference in mpg from summer to winter. I used to see 16mpg on average in my 06 Lariat 4x4 Screw on the highway at 65-70mph. I just installed a ReTrax bed cover and now my mpg under the same conditions has shot up to just a tick under 20mpg !!!!!!!!!!!! It might even hit 20 if I take a long enough trip. Anyway, I didn’t know if you had a cover on your bed or not….

Just driving "normal" I guess. No playing catch up to a Titan, no hard acceleration. The flat Retrax Bed cover made a huge difference too. Setting cruise at 65.
Truth be told, I actually attained that 19+mpg driving into Chicago!!!!!! I can't wait to take a trip and see if I can bust 20mpg!

I was getting about 17.5 mpg going a touch over 70 mph with 3.55 gears. Now I have a tonneau cover and will be heading to Florida next week, so it will be interesting to see what kind of fuel mileage I come out with after the tonneau cover. I am shooting for 19-20 on the way there.
Since this topic is on fuel, I just got back from town. The girlfriend and I went to get breakfast and I had to pick up a new fuel filter since I have never changed mine. I saw something I didn't think I would ever see again, GAS WAS $1.99
Hope fully it keeps dropping!!
Sorry off topic I know, but its great!!!
