I mounted mine the same as Duke said, worked out great. The only thing that I did differently was added a little more 3m tape to a couple of areas and put four tiny self tapping screws in just to make sure it stayed. Sits back in out of the way but really shows up at night and perfect eye level for people tailgating you in a car.

I just installed the Plasma Glow Fire and Ice 60" bar on my 06 F150. I cleaned the metal with 3M solvent remover, centered the bar, and stuck it down. There are problems with it laying flat on the metal because both ends of the truck have sheet metal at a higher level than the center so the two end sticky pads don't sit flat on the metal. Also, the passenger side has a raised opening where the pin on the tailgate enters which causes the bar to not lay flat. Mine stuck just fine after turning the outer mounting pads 45 degrees. If I need to add screws later I will. I cut the parking light wire so mine only functions as a brake light, turn signal indicator, and reverse light. It is more noticeable this way than when dimly lit with the parking lights IMO.

I am thinking about doing what EW_ did and possibly cut the running lights wire. I'm going to get it attached for now, but it might look nicer/be more noticeable/mesh with large SUV LED taillights if the running lights were not used. I have to pull the taillights anyhow later to re-install my LED taillights so I might try it both ways.

Not true, my 04 scab was a Dearborn truck and it did not have the pin in the tailgate. My 06 screw is also a Dearborn truck and it does have the pin.

Good idea on adding some additional foam tape behind the 'gaps'. I think I'll tackle this one tomorrow evening following the Univ. of KY basketball game (I'll be there... look for me!)...
Call Plasmaglow and explain the situation. They are aware of it and well send you an extra set of spacers. Double them up and mount the light bar as low as you can. Then, you'll have to make a small notch in the top of the light bar for the pin to "swing" through as you open and close the tailgate.

For me it wasn't the pin as much as it was the "buldge" that had the slot in it for the pin to pass through. It prevents the light bar (doesn't matter what brand) from laying flat on the metal. When I called Plasmaglow's customer support they were aware of the issue and just sent me 10 or so plastic spacers. When I doubled them up it spaced the light bar out far enough to avoid the buldge. I thought I'd post up my pics if anyone wanted to see how I fixed mine!

Sorry I didn’t jump on this one earlier. I was out of town. I have the Line of Fire installed and hard wired on my truck, so I may be able to help you here. My truck was built in Norfolk though, so it doesn’t have that lug you’re taking about.
I decided that the recommended mounting method just wasn’t going to last very long, so I actually hard mounted mine (stainless steel sheet metal screws) to the vertical surface at the back end of the bed. This is also the ugly thing you get to look at from the rear between the tailgate and the bumper. Although it is vertical and the right width, it isn’t completely flat. I solved that problem by using rubber washers between the bar and the sheet metal where needed to keep the bar pretty much flat. As to your question on being able to see it back there, don’t worry, it’s just as good.
