I kinda wish mine would do this. Mine is starting to get really faded on the passenger side and dealer denied the warranty claim, saying I put some kind of product on it causing it to fade. I tried to call BS on them cause the only thing I've used has been 303 but they would not budge.

But I have a smooth non textured one waiting to be test fit. I had it for a packaging sample at my work and I think it is for the new body style since is a smooth version. It looks exactly the same so I'm hoping it fits, then all it will need is a coat of paint.

Go to a different dealer. This is bad service.

Any one got the part number for the driver's side cowl?

My buddy's truck got smacked with a peice of hail and smashed it in.
So on top of this fix, we'll need to replace that part of the cowl too.

Thanks!

Wow! I don't know how I missed this thread in the past. Mine never has made noise, but seeing it from my driver's seat has bugged me for a couple of years at least!

Thanks for the "screw" solution...

I had mine replaced under warenty and about 2 weeks later it popped up again. I think this time i will just go with the screw, seems easier than messing with the dealership

You can try, but I doubt it will work.
Mine is starting to look like crap too. I'm thinking of taking it off and spraying it with some Krylon Fusion plastic paint, slapping a coat of clear on it, and then putting it back. That should keep it looking nice for a while.
I just can seem to see how it is removed.
Anyone have some nice step by step instructions?

I wish I would have seen this post before I did "high speed testing" to see where the rattling sound was coming from. After passing an oncoming logging truck I started noticing a rattle near the windshield but only at high speeds, low speeds it was quiet. After quite a few miles of hitting the speed limiter while my buddy shined a flashlight out the windshield (it was night time) he noticed the cowl was moving. Luckily no cops were around during the troubleshooting

Mine was replaced but if it has problems again it will get the screw treatment.

I fixed mine by putting a screw in the joint behind the weather stripping where the pieces overlap. Been fine ever since.

NO product on trim if you haven't already.

I think I've come to the conclusion after owning 3 F-150's, to NEVER put anything on any of the plastic pieces on the truck again. No matter what you use, it seems to make the fading and discoloration worse. I mean, when you first put the stuff on it looks awesome, all deep black and new, but then it fades again and gets worse and worse. I now believe the guy on here a few years back who said that he worked for one of those companies that makes the trim shine/back to black/etc. type products and said they actually put something in there to make them fade so you keep buying and using their product.

Next new truck I buy, no treatment for the plastic pieces other than standard car wash soap, bet they'll last a lot longer fade-wise.

I used Duplicolor paint and clear coat to paint mine. All rattle can. Looks much better than the faded black. Did the mirrors and door handles too. The Cowl is easy to take off. I'll have too look at mine in the morning to remember how.

That's exactly what I did...

Before:

After:

Let me know if you need help removing the cowl, it's super simple, 2 plastic tabs and 1 screw. Taking the hood off would make it even easier, but I didn't mess with that.

My cowling on the passenger side has faded badly, would Ford replace it under warranty?

Thanks.
