Mine was coming loose so dealer replaced with a new one and it came loose also, dealer finally did what the4by4freek did and put a screw in it. It looks factory and is invisible when the hood is down. I haven't had a problem since.

Same problem here

Had mine replaced about 3000 miles ago. So far it hasn't popped back up.

It used to move so bad that I could hear it in the truck!
I know this is an old thread but I need to fix my cowl. I'm having a hard time visualizing where to put the screw. A picture would help a lot. Thanks!

Mine isn't coming loose yet but is there a way to secure it with a black plastic zip tie, hidden underneath?

If you open the hood and look at the cowl, you will see a peice of rubber weatherstripping that runs across it. Right in the center, there is a seam where the 2 sections go together. You might need a ladder for easier access to the cowl from the ground. I pulled the weather stripping back just a bit and got a #8x 1/2" stainless steel screw and installed it basically under the weatherstripping. The cowl sits on a plastic ledge and is held in place with little clips. When you look at it you will see exactly what I am talking about. I put the cowl back into position and put a screw in it right in the center. THe drivers side actually holds the passenger side into position, so if you catch the one side with a screw you'll be good to go.

I am sorry, a zip tie will not work. There is nowhere to put one. It is a flat area that meets to a flat area. The clips that are supposed to hold the two halves together leave much to be desired. I have still had zero problems with this fix.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I'll try fixing it tomorrow. Just for fun I shot a few pictures of the area in question.

In your 3rd picture is the area you need to put the screw in. Put everything back in place and make sure it is where it belongs. Then in the little square section close to the rubber weathersrtipping insert the screw.

So I drop by the hardware store and pick up the highly sought after #8 by 1/2" stainless steel screw. It cost me 9 cents. I bought a spare, just in case.

I went home, popped the hood, looked at the offending cowl, and said to myself, "It really can't be this simple!".

Well, folks, it is. All I did was follow the4by4freek's simple instructions and in less than a minute, seriously, less than a minute, my cowl problems were over.

And I tried to get the cowl to move around after the screw was in place. No chance. That sucker is in there good.

Now, all we have to do is package this "mod" up, slap some glossy full color instructions in along with a celebrity endorsement and we can sell these for $14.95, at least.

(Sorry for the crappy picture.)
