Box on the back of rear viewmirror??

Box on the back of rear viewmirror??

Hey guys I just picked up a 06 F150 ext cab XLT 4x4 and on the post coming from the windshield to the rearview mirror there is a box with wires going up to the headliner anybody know what it is i look in the owners manual and unless i missed it i could not find anything on it any help would be great.

This is a guess so don't quote me on it.

I've always assumed that it's the photo sensor for the auto headlights. I think the compass might be up there too because when I had one of those cheap mexican magnetic necklaces around the mirror my dash display didn't seem to ever have the right direction on the guage cluster.

on 04+s the light sensor is the little pod on the dash on the drivers side. Might be for the compass. I could look it up, but im sure others will respond that know for sure.

I thought that little pod was the security system led. Is it dual purpose?

the led part of the pod is security, but there is actually a light sensing probe in there too.

notice its alot larger diameter then a typical single led security light is? and it kinda has a smoked tint to it?
