Headlights on staying on when set to auto.....

Noticed in the last week or so that my lights stay on after I shut the truck off at night. Lights are set to the auto setting. Have always shut off within 5 seconds of closing doors and immediately if I double click the alarn. Now they dont go off..whats up? Im running xcal2 and dont want to screw around with a reflash.

This has absolutely nothing to do with a reflash. This is a 100% normal function of the headlight system on the '04+ F-150 when used in the "Auto" mode. At least it is on my truck, and the 2 previous ones too.

In the autolamp mode, there is a delay built into the headlight circuit that allows the headlights to stay on for a preset amount of time so that allows you to see while you are walking into your house at night. You can change the amount of time that the lights stay on, just look in your owner's manual for the procedure.

Thanks guys, in the last week or so it seems as if it changed on its own how long they would stay on. now its minutes as opposed to seconds?

If you have the digital section in your dash (Bottom right corner) you can hit the middle button until light delay comes up then hit the right button until it is set to the time you want.

If your vehicle is not equipped with a message center, then the auto
lamps can be programmed manually by:
1. Start with the ignition in OFF and the autolamps selected ON.
2. Deselect (switch off) the autolamps.
3. Put the ignition in RUN.
4. Put the ignition in OFF.
5. Select the autolamps (switch on).
Steps 2 through 5 must be performed within a 10 second period. At
this point, the headlamps and park lamps will turn on.
6. Deselect the autolamps after the desired autolamp delay time
(maximum of 3 minutes)
At this point, the headlamps and park lamps will turn off.

Maybe Muddyape inadvertantly did the above procedures, thus setting the delay for a longer period of time.

BINGO!!! thanks for the replies fella's. When I got out of work I checked the manual and did as you wrote above and presto! back to normal. I had a little incident last week where the truck wouldnt start because the battery was dead...maybe I did something to prolong the cycle. Thanks
