4x4 blocks installed -> little harder ride

Anyone else have this problem after they installed the 4x4 blocks? My rear end seems a bit harsh going over speed bumps. I am thinking this may be attributed to the shock absorbers extending/bottoming out. Probably need to buy some FX4 or 4x4 shocks. Your thoughts?

Yeah, they will over extend over speed bumps. I have heard of this a few times.

The shocks are different for the blocked and non-blocked axels. Probably need new shocks. I would jack up the frame to allow the axel to drop and see if there is any play left in the shock. If the axel starts lifting with the shock even after the frame is up only a little, then that is a definite possibility. Not sure about full off on the leafs, but I would expect another inch or so of travel. Good luck.

Hey guys i was wondering how to remove the rear blocks in my 06 4X4 because the 4X4 seem to sit alot higher than the 4x2s. Does any one know if its safe for me to remove my rear blocks??? and lose that inch and a halph that makes the rear of my f150 look soo ******* high??

all you have to do is suppoet the truck on stands, take shocks loose at bottom end, take nuts off ubolts, lower axle, take blocks out, raise axle, install new ubolts, and you are done.....and it is safe, but you have to get new ubolts..shorter ones.....i have a set if you want to buy them.....just email me...labman1014@msn.com

Yep, and it is safe because it is basically the same setup as a 2WD rear. And it drops the rear exactly 2".

I'm somewhat familiar with the lowering process, as of now my DJM 3.5/5 drop kit and new shocks are sitting in my garage cuz I dont want to pay some guy $300 to install the kit and Im kinda afraid that the 3.5 drop is gunna be way too low in the front and look to west coast and rub etc.I wanted to take the blocks out cuz its a somewhat quick easy way to level out your truck. I was wondering if you guys think I can remove the rear blocks with the folowing tools:

-Budget ratchet set i aquired from this store i worked at, set has a socket wrench and sockets, and I have a worklite

-NO AIR TOOLS

-Me, Im 18 and 6'3'' tall and can bench 145. I'v been under the car a lot simply to look at things and to get a feel for the car, basic mechanical ability

Once I get the blocks out do you guys think I can use the U-bolt that came with my DJM kit, (after i post this and do finish the 3 hours of homework i have im gunna go out and see if the DJM u bolt is shorter and if it more of the bolt is threaded) Oh and what do you guys mean when you say you have to lower the axle???

there are lil pegs on the blocks that keep them aligned with the leaf and the axle....you have to lower the axle to clear the pegs to get them out.....as far as tools.......mine needed a 24mm deep for the ubolt nuts and i think a 15mm and 18mm for the shocks......that should be all except for jack and jack stands and tool to take off the tire....

Yea I didnot realize i had to take off the rear tire, this really could take a while with just hand tools. I just want to make sure it is safe once i remove the blocks, b.c after they are removed the leaf pack will be sitting on the axle plate piece oposed to the specially designed blocks that were put there for a reason to support the leaf and make 4X4 models look stupid.

O yea i have to buy a floor jack, any suggestions? (Sears, Walmart, Harbor-Freight=Crapy stuff?)

Do you think i should bring it to the dealer and have them do it in like 20 min and slip the guy a $20 or something??????

i bought one at walmart and took it back a few weeks later......i did mine with just hand tools......i added mine and it took about 1.5-2 hours.....you could try the dealer but they might charge more than $20......might even say something about warranty if you still ahve one.......as far as being safe..it will be the exact same as a 2wd....the leaf sits right on top of the axle.......the only difference in a 2wd and 4wd is the block and longer shocks......

So you bought a floor jack from wall mart then used it to jack up ur car to install the blocks and then you returned it and got ur full money back.....I like ur style works everytime, anyway I feel confident that I can do swap out these blocks...but the only place were I feel like i might run into trouble is when it comes time to take the leaf pack off, I'am not fully familiar with this pin thing that keeps the leaf pack in line with the axle. What exactly did you do with it, 1. Disconected it to lower the axle from the leaf then took the block out and then you allighned it or somethig back to the axle?????

you dont have to remove the leaf pack......just once you have the ubolts off the axle..........lower the axle and it will drop off the peg and you can pull the block out............the only thing you have to unbolt is the shock at the lower end and the ubolts.........that is all......well except for the tire of course.....
