Long-term dependability?

I might need to buy my company truck, a 2005 XLT with the 4.6 engine. When the time comes it'll have about 90K and I've always treated the truck with kid gloves and taken great care with it.

My question: can these trucks, with the 4.6 and the auto trans they come with, go 200K or so miles? I don't want to buy it and find that it dies at 100k.

My guess is if properly taken care of, the truck should go at least 200K miles... am I correct?

well if the statistic is true.
ford f series pickups have the most trucks on the road over 250,000miles
so if thats true it should make it past 200k

My brother has a 2001 f150 with the 4.6 and auto tranny with 185,000 on it and has not needed any thing other than normal maintenance. I have seen numerous 4.6 f150s with the auto form the older body(97-2003) running around with 200,000...

My first truck was a 99 f150 2wd 4.2L V6 Auto. I know you are asking about the 4.6 but on my 4.2 i put 198,000 miles and it still had the original engine and transmission. At 80K i had to replace the alternator, but it was mostly my fault. I was giving my truck heck when it tore up. At like 140K i put a new starter on it because it was starting to miss and didn't want to be stranded. Other than that and routine maintence I did nothing else. It was a dependable truck

Do you guys think the same is true for the 5.4's? I'd like to pull as many miles out of this truck as possible...

Being that the 5.4L is basically a larger 4.6 (same design, etc...) then probably.

I've got a '97 5.4 liter with 180K-something on it, doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil between services.

I'm gonna be very disappointed if I don't see at least 200K out of my '04 before any major problems.

I work for a company who has a fleet account with Ford. We have numerous 4.6 F150's and all have atleast 80-140,000 miles. We keep them maintained but there's "NO TELLIN" just how they are driven away from the shop out of the watching eye's of management. I can say out of all the trucks we run, the F150's are the most reliable.... Each truck is different but generally speaking, proper maintenance.. clean oil, transmission fluid, and keeping every thing clean is the MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do to ensure a long life.

I'd say you would have no trouble (major) with seeing 200,000 on a 4.6 auto. Esp. If you have been the main driver and know the histury of the truck.
