Bed Rattle

I have been hunting this week and driving down a lot of logging roads. When I hit a real bumpy patch something is making a bad rattle noise from the back of the truck. It sonds like my tailgate is loose but when I look at it it seems tight. I have the frame dampener on it but that doesnt look like the culprit either. I will try to get someone to ride back there so I can pinpoint it but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks, It is embarrassing to have my new truck sound worse than mt 72 f-250.Oh and by the way the spare tire is tight, Thanks.

Are you sure it is the bed and not the jack? I notice you have a SCREW and the jack under the back seat can get loose and make quite the racket when it is gets bumpy...

I was crawling all around the back seat of mine before i figured out that the jack was loose and metal parts were banging on the seat brackets.

Thanks, I have a spray in liner and I checked the jack because I actually took it out to make sure the spare was tight. The noise is loud rattling like something is loose and I dont think it should happen. I am going back up this afternoon and will see if with some help I can isolate. Thanks.

Make sure your spare is cranked up tight. I have had them make noise before when they weren't quite cranked up all the way.

To eliminate the tailgate as the problem, why not remove it and see if its still doing it??

Yes I might do that, I have not looked to see what it takes. You dont think I would tweak the bed running without it over those roads do you? Thanks

I guess its possible. The tailgate is easy to take off, drop the tailgate and disconnect the straps and then lift it a little over halfway like you are going to close it and then pull out in the passenger side.

Sounds like you're talking about what happens on a pretty bad 'wash-board' road. I've never seen a truck that didn't do that on a bad enough wash-board road.
