Squeak in rear of truck

All,

Hello haven't posted here in a while. I wanted to pass this along. I took my 2005 F-150 truck to the dealers last week for a squeak in the rear. I personally swore it was coming from the rear drivers side wheel. Sounded like a brake squeak. My dealership called and said "you won't believe this". The squeak was coming from the plastic tailgate guard on the top of the tailgate. They showed me where the paint was wearing from the plastic rubbing. They replaced the plastic tail gate protector and put a double sided tape on to prevent the rubbing. Problem solved! When doing a search on this issue it looks like some others are experiencing a squeak in the rear of the truck. So if you get a squeak in the rear check the tail gate protector.

This has been covered before but the tailgate hinges also will squeek over bumps mine required some grease. Just anouther place to check if yours is making noise.

Hello PA,

It has been awhile! How have you been lately? Besides the squeek, how's the truck treating you? Have 10k miles on mine and no issues. You must have some rough roads up there to rub the paint off under that plastic piece.

Thanks for the heads up

Scott

Scott,

This truck has been great. This was the first bit of warranty work that was done since I received this truck as part of the vibration buy back. Truck as 15,000 on it now. Yes the roads are rough up here which probably doesn't do much for the body parts. I really like this truck. Been vibe free for almost a year now.

My tailgate has squeeked for damn near every one of the 6,000-7,000 miles I've put on it and has been worked on numerous, numerous times by my dealer. I wish they'd just weld the damn thing in place to stop it from squeeking. I think every part of my tailgate squeeks...the hinge, the stops, the latches, everything. It's annoying as hell and is a very piercing sound.
