Valentine One Hardwire Installation Pics

Pics here of my install. For the hardwire I ran up the headliner, down the passenger A-Pillar and near the fuse box. I didn't actually tap into a fuse, but there are some harnesses there and I found one nearby that was a switched source. Yellow and red wire.

Then I ran the remote back up under the dash to the driver's side, up inside the steering column area and in front of the instrument panel.

Results below.

Where did I buy my V1? I snagged it off Ebay about 3 years ago. Of course when I traded in my VW GTI, the V1 came with me. It was hardwired in the old car, so I had to buy new stuff.

I think I only saved about $50 buying off ebay.

Also wanted to mention that I could not find a switched source up in the overhead console. I don't have the rail system. There's 2 hot wires up there. One is constantly on and the other is hot while the truck is off. Soon as you turn on the truck, that one switches itself off. So, I had to run it down. Then I had an issue with the "Tap a fuse" deal, it just wouldn't fit into the #22 fuse because of the design of the tap. Just wound up finding another switched wire under the dash.

I didn't want to tap into the mirror wiring, because the tap would be visible. For this install, I actually removed the A-pillar to get a clean tuck and ran this through the dash.

HAHA, I have my remote readout for my V-1 exactly the same place, great choice. I put the remote power mod in the overhead sunroof-lamps area. I had to take a soldering gun and burn a hole in the overhead area to shove the remote power mod into.

Thanks.

I think it works very well. I wouldn't use any thing else. I've never run it side by side anything else, though. Most of the head to head comparison's are neck in neck with like the Escort 8500 and Bel RX65 and what not.

What I like most about V1 is that it is upgradeable. I can get the "newest and latest" for $75 direct from V1. With any other unit, you're looking at buying a whole new one if new technology comes out.

Once you use the directional arrows, you won't want to use a "regular" radar detector again.

I did mine the same way except I used velcro and attached the V1 to the bottom of the rear view mirror/compass.

The best deteactor I've ever used.

Pictures are in my gallery.

nice nistall .. getting ready to do the same thing with my 8500. Does the unit get in the way of the visor at all?

there is very little, if any difference between the escort and the V1 .. the only thing the V1 does that the escort doesn't is show direction. both are upgradeable, both show number and types of contacts, and both do a great job. the escort is a little cheaper. I run the V1 in my car, and the 8500 in my truck ..

Yeah, it actually does get in the way of the visor, but only if the visor is all the way towards the windshield. I thought about mounting the unit under the rearview mirror.

I like keeping it up top. I'm getting the truck tinted this week. I keep the unit on the top side of the windshield, behind the tint and no one even knows it is there.

Tint doesn't affect RADAR, only LIDAR which doesn't matter to me.

Laser detectors just say "Hope you weren't speeding, because if so, it's too late anyway, you just got clocked". Been busted on LIDAR in the past and there just isn't anything you can do about it. Fortunately, I have a good traffic lawyer that can beat the ticket for a fair price.
