My RamAirHood.com(APM)Experience = LONG STORY

I was a little hesitant to share this experience of mine with ramairhoodhood.com because i believe it is partially my fault that it happened. It all started when i started doing modifications to my truck and after doing my research i decided to buy one of their working G-Force ram air hood but the price was a little high so i started looking for coupons and did found one from another forum chargerforum.com (i am a member) for $200.00 0ff for the option 5 package, being offered as a group buy.

So on Sept. 7, 2006 i finally placed my order and it was posted on my credit card 2 days after. (yes i applied the $200.00 coupon off and it did work). On Sept. 11 i got an e-mail from Paul Hutchin confirming my order. After 2 weeks of not hearing anything i called them to check on the status and i was told it will take 4-6 weeks for them to finish processing my order. But yesterday early morning (California Time) my daughter got a message & told me that i should call APM back ( Yahoooo, they're finally delivering my hood ! ! !)So when i got to the office i called them right away and i talked to the lady and she stated that she needs a credit card from me so she can charged me $15.00 for the difference between a F-150 & Charger Hood. I told her how come i'm just getting this call when i ordered my hood on Sept. 7 and she stated " She has no idea because the OWNER SOLD THE COMPANY and they just bought it.( Please note they are still taking orders for a group buy from the other forum members. After 2 or 3 minutes she called back, I thought to myself " Thank God , the new owners are efficient " but boy was i wrong, she said the she will need to charge me $200.00 and i will need to wait for another 4-6 weeks to get my order. So in my frustation i just cancelled my order.I can still hear the words from the lady when i cancelled my order "Are you sure you want to cancel your order?"
I was really really frustrated because i was already looking forward in installing that hood in my truck and on top of that " It Was Not That Easy Convincing My Commander-In-Chief in Replacing a Perfectly Nice Working Hood" and all for nothing. I apologize in advance for venting.

Oh man sorry to hear that. I can imagine how you feel. I ordered my exhaust on 20 Sept and it might be in by 10 Oct. I was expecting it sooner cause it was suppose to ship directly from the manufacture as I understood it. I really like those hoods and if I got the go ahead to buy one I'd be heartbroken to have to cancel on such a beauty.

Looks like Ramairhood might be working themself into a hole. I considered their prices high for abs plastic regardless of the fit. Now the new owners raise the price to cover their buyout cost. Now I definitely can't afford their hood.

You mean to tell me you went on a Dodge forum to get a good deal on a part for a Ford.
Really that sucks because I want one for my truck. I was thinking they are the best hoods out their. New owner now make me wonder if they will stand behind there product. That really sucks. btw, Quit shopping on the Mopar forum for your Ford truck.

Thanks Everyone. But i need to give credit where credit is due. Yesterday i e-mailed ramairhood because checked my credit card statement and there was still no credit back from them. I believe they responded appropriately and stated they mailed my check and i should be expecting my check by October 3. But today when i got home their check is already here and the refund amount is exactly the same they charged me.

Maybe they just got too busy with the buyout issue and it did mess up their operation a little, But if my refund experience can be a basis, i think the new owners might know what they are doing.

Thanks Again.

Here's my recent experience with Ram-Air Hood Company (APM). I ordered my hood in july with the OEM matching paint. The company charged my credit card with in 24 ours and we got an email about 3 days later stating that they "custom" make everyhood and we could expect delivery in about 3-4 weeks.

About 6 weeks later still nothing so we sent email. After a week of no answer on their phone (or being put on hold for 15+ minutes) and no response on email we contacted our credit card company - the next day we got an email stating they had some personal family issues and would have our hood out in a few "weeks".

Around mid Sep I got a call from a transport company in Seattle stating they had my hood in and wanted me to come pick it up.... odd as I paid a ton extra for delivery at my house. I went rounds with the delivery company and they ended up delivering it to us if we met them on a main road in my town.

After I got it home and opened the box we noticed one of the corners was damaged and upon mounting the paint was way off... I contacted the company again via email and phone for over a week. After two weeks of being told that the Company would never ship a damaged hood and that I gave them the wrong color code (ironically the same off the truck sticker)- we finally got APM to refund $300 (the cost of paint & repair) against my original cost.

They did mail me a check which arrived promptly, I'm just hoping it clears. Odd how they just didn't apply a refund to the Credit card as most companies do.

The hood, minus the crappy paint job (wrong mix, orange peeling, heavy spray runs...) looks like a nice add on and I like it. My local body shop is fixing it right up.

My recommendation is to use caution if buying from APM and inspect (open) the box when it arrives. We looked at the outside of the box only and APM refused to refund anything for the damage because we "signed" for it.

I've posted some pictures here of the fun I got when I opened the box I paid in excess of $1K for.. remember, it showed up only 9 + weeks after I paid.

Good hoods now makes a fiberglass dual snorkel hood that I would look at if I had to do this again, not that I don't like my hood - but I wouldn't personally recommend or deal with APM again.

I would just save my money foe something else. Then I am not a huge hood scoop unless the car came with it from the factory.
