My exhaust set-up?

Hey guys...
i bought my truck and it already had dual exhaust on it... I crawled under the truck the other day to check it out and i have 2 pipes coming from the engine into one vforce muffler with 2 pipes leading to the rear out of that? can someone tell me if i have true duals(i dont think i do) or what? Also has anyone heard of vforce is it a subsidiary of a name brand or is it an off brand... either way i LOVE the way my exhaust sounds and looks so ill leave it alone im just wondering what kind of set-up i have...

Last time I checked thats not a true dual set-up. A true dual woud be two pipes coming from the headers that never meet one another into one single pipe alone. Like the GM trans ams and camaros, they have a y-pipe just like our trucks because of the room I guess. Im assuming your pipes coming from the engine go into one pipe, then into the muffler, then splits into two pipes, correct?

no im pretty sure the 2 from the engine go directly into the muffler, then 2 come out of the muffler

Well in that case I guess you have a good dual exhaust set up then, as long as the muffler flows enough for both pipe, which if its a dual in and dual out muffler then it should.

I would have to see a picture of it, but I believe it used to be made by Flo-pro, but I "think" that its a muffler that Pypes uses on their catbacks now. Its now called the Pro-V instead of V-Force, if thats the right one

True duals are TRUE duals.. meaning the 2 pipes never meet from the headers .. and go into there own seperate mufflers..

you have a nice exhuast setup but its not true dual..

your mufler is acting like an X pipe to keep up the Back pressure.. i dont think you can True dual out these engines and not lose enough backpressure to screw up the performance..

now if you supercharge ur engine then back pressures not so good

Do you guys even know what you are talking about...

His set up is DI/DO. Now thats ok as the muffler serves as some type of y-pipe. Magnaflow is the only one that i know of that has a DI/DO that has a built in x-pipe. So in a performance aspect its the same as SI/DO in a sense.

Now true duals is seperate piping running off each header, they have their own muffler but can be connected by a balance pipe which is normally called a x or h pipe. Some say x is for horsepower and h is for torque. If you look at the FR500 exhaust it has both, h-pipe before the mufflers and a x-pipe followed after the muffler.

I have 2 pipes leaving the heads that go to 2 diff 40 series flowmasters and then goin out to exit behing the wheels. I thought this was "true duals". The only cats I have are the 2 right at the heads. I took the larger 2 off that were further back.

Hi.

BestNTx - what you've got is a Flo-Pro V-Force Dual/Dual muffler:

http://www.flopro.com/VForce.htm (scroll down a bit).

Baffling looks similar to Slowmaster in some respects, with probably the same detrimental effect on scavenging. Likely sounds good, though, as you've noticed.

There is no mention on their site whether or not it's internally X'd or not. If not, you may benefit from an external x-pipe in front of the muffler, as close to the front as possible.

If you like it & the install was done with some quality, that's all that matters. Enjoy.

Uber - you need to do some more reading before you make dumb-a$$ BS claims like that.

Cheers
Bubba

I just moved from N. FL to S. GA so no inspection. I'm pretty sure they are cats. The front 2 are what look diff to me. I wanted all of them taken off but the muffler guy was gonna charge alot more to take those front two off. They are in a tight spot and after they are off it looks like it would be a pain to run new pipe up to where they are. My new pipe starts at the back of the front 2 smaller "cats"
