How will the f150 stack up against the GMT900

it will be very intersting to see how the new GMT 900's fair against the 150. The GMC version is the better looking in my opinion. To be critical the General is just now doing things in the 900 we have had since 2004 (hydroformed frame, super plush interior, low NVH levels. They have us on fuel economy, transmission technology and warranty.

It has been 10 years since I owned a chevy truck, my Fords have been good to me but the new 900's are going to get a serious looking over by me once they come out.

They are going to do the official into at the Texas State Fair this week along with Fords new Super Duty intro.

Here is picture from Flint of the Sierra crew cab in White. Looks GOOD !!

I completely agree, the new Denali is very sharp. Now that it has a decent interior it will be a serious option to the KR.

With a six speed tranny and the 6 liter it will be a driver too.

It's a fair piece of competition... it's not, however, one that I'd ever consider due to past experiences with GM.

Thank goodness we all have choices eh?

I agree 04 Red... I think it 'LOOKS' good as well. Again, I woudn't waste a match and a gallon of gasoline on it though.

I would give it a look. I had a 1993 Z-71 that was perfect.

I'd look at it and then laugh. Nah, just kidding. As soon as I am ready for a new vehicle, it will be:

A) Domestic
B) 3/4 or 1 ton
C) Diesel-powered

Not sure if it'll be Ford, Chevy, or Dodge...

But, now that I've been in the car business, I know how to hammer out a good deal, believe you me. I guess it depends on what Ford's new Super Duty looks like and what the new offering from Dodge looks like. I hate the current Dodge (it's butt ugly IMO) and the upcoming Super Duty looks nice, but I need to see it in person. Also, being that it will have a new engine, not so sure about all that. Remember the 6.0 diesel introduction of 2003? Disaster..

That GMC is hideous... with all the copying GM did, they still couldn't design it to look as good as the 2004+ F-150.

Anyone else think that GM might have a little "Super Chief" concept envy?

Better looking? I don't think so. To me from that picture it looks like the stole the wheels off of my 2002 FX4 F150. What are they trying to do. Why don't they just go ahead and sell out to Ford and let ford make them look better. Then maybe the Americans can put the import in the back seat.

By better looking I meant the Sierra is better looking than the Silverado in the gmt 900's. I'll wait till I see one in person to make final call if I like either better than the 150.

One big advantage I see is that the 900's will have the Allison/Duramax combo in the HD version which looks very similar to the 1500's. We can't get diesel power unless we go up to SuperDuty and not everyone is crazy about the new body style coming and the new 6.4 engine. We'll have to see how it all looks at the end of the month.

I'm glad to see GM stepping up. Ford needs to keep innovating to keep the 150 at the top. This will keep the chase on & I love pickup wars.

i've just been to the chevy website..

when it comes right down to numbers .. the chevy HD 1500 wins over the F-150..

but if ford simply put a bigger better engine in the F-150

the F-150 is a solid platform thats more stable then the other half tons.. hands down.. but for reasons unknown ford didnt want to give the F-150 the power it needed.. theres no reason a Scab 6'5'' bed couldnt handle a trailer of 11,000 lbs.. the only thing stoping us is our drive train

The new F-150 and Super Duty we have coming will blow the new GM out of the water once again. GM, you can't touch this.....

I disagree... having towed at its rated limit and over, the F150 as shipped

1. HAS ENOUGH POWER FOR 16,000 total wieght. more might be nice, but running from NM to OR across the rockies the whole way wasn't an issue.

2. IS UNDER SPRUNG. To really use even its printed maximums you need aux springs of some kind. 11K lbs of towing requires suspension much stiffer and thus usualy limited to F250.

3. IS LACKING TIRES. The OEM rubber even in the LT tires is designed for being cheap, quiet, cheap, decent riding... did I mention cheap? No where in that is running the kind of construction you need for heavy work. IE stiff sidewalls, stiff sidewalls, stiff sidewalls. again See F250 or above for properly equipped towing vehicles.

The F150 is geared to be a CITY TRUCK that if pressed hard can get the job done. There are tradeoffs that CAN NOT BE AVOIDED that limit the top end of safely loading it. Its not about frames, HP, etc. The F150 is trying to make the dude who uses it as a luxury car that can haul garden supplies happy while keeping the ability to work. To keep the former happy they have to limit its ablity to do the latter.

you lost me at # 2.

the leaf springs on the F-150 are the same width as an F-250 or F-350.. there 3'' .... the frame is the strongest in the class..

like i said i went to the chevy website.. my NON HEAVY DUTY SUPERCAB F-150 can handle MORE payload then any NON heavy duty Chevy 1500 or dodge 1500..

and if you want to be TECHNICAL.. the F-150 HEAVY DUTY regular cab with a 8' bed can TOW and HUAL MORE then any HALF TON period..

and that would be towing 10,500 lbs and handling 3090 lbs in the bed..
if you make it an F-150 HD SCAB with an 8' bed then those numbers drop to 9990 lbs of trailer and 2700lbs in the bed..

i was simply comparing the fact that chevy makes there HD in super crews with 6.5' beds and that ford doesnt.. so they win in that respect..

and no this truck doesnt have enough power to handle 16,000 lbs.. respectably..

this truck's frame/ suspension could handle it easily not the power train..

im not saying this truck cant gross 16k and go over mountains.. im just saying it would be nice to keep up with traffic..
