2005 cruise control fire

Has anyone else seen of or heard of a 2005 burning because of cruise control thing. My friends 2005 SCREW burnt to a crisp last weekend. Fire investigator said it was probably cruise control related. Was he unlucky or is this a thing to come for us 05 owners?????

First I have heard. At least my 2005 sits outside. The wife's 2000 Expedition was recalled, it sits in the garage.

The fire guy said "it probably crusie related" because he probably heard the big deal going on with the PREVIOUS generation cruise control. The new 2004+ body style does NOT have the same issue. That being said, now Im curious to see why his burnt to the ground.

Just because someone can add, Mr. Math Teacher, doesn't mean they have common sense. There are no known issues with the 2004+ F-150's. They are equipped with a totally (100%) different type of cruise control than the previous generation.

Probably the result of his improper installation of some aftermarket electronic or electrical accessory.

There's a lot of things in vehicles nowadays that can go up in flames, more than most people think.

Cruise control related? I seriously doubt it. The Fire Guy, being ignorant and misinformed, obviously doesn't know that the '04+ F150 uses a completely different cruise control system than the previous generation F150.

And if he can look at the smoldering remains of a vehicle and say, "Welp, it was prolly the cruise control that burned up," and actually be right, he needs to be on CSI, not working for the local fire department.

Uninformed Fireman.
When I bought my truck back in 04, my brother tells me.." I wouldn't buy a Ford F-150 because of the unacceptable frontal crash test", and " What about the recall on the cruise control that catches on fire". LOL...both of which were issues on the previous generation F-150.

I don't blame him for not wanting a previous gen f150:

For those that read this thread and don't understand what we mean by 100% different cruise control, there IS NO CRUISE CONTROL on the new model truck.
Yep, there are some cruise control buttons but the 'cruise' is handled by the PCM and throttle motor. No part of that is an actual cruise control. Since the new body trucks are drive by wire the cruise control is actually just a command set in the PCM that is triggered by the low voltage buttons on the dash. It's a lot less likely to cause a fire than your lights in your radio...

The old style cruise controls consisted of a bunch of wires, switches, a servo motor, a vacuum canister, assorted sensors, plumbing and linkage.
Comparing the two generations is like comparing a word processor to an old Underwood typewriter, or an adding machine to a calculator.
A whole different concept.
Chris

I have seen fire caused by many things. To just look at the truck and jsut say it was the cruise? It can be from just about anything. Out here about the only time there will be any real type of investagation is if it is suspicious in nature.
As for the crash test. A week after I got my truck I went to a head on accident where a girl in a car took a F150 head on. He had a broken arm. (the guy with the truck) The truck had a fair amount of damage. It was a 45 MPH zone. The girls car was thrown off the road and major damage. She was killed. I remember telling the guy that I just got a new Ford and I was impressed how well the truck held up.
