Exclamation Who has a light in their mirrors facing down?

I noticed that my mirrors have a plastic snap-in that is rectangular in shape on the underside of them. It reminded me of my buddy's exploer sport that had lights there that would illuminate the ground when the alarm was unarmed and/or the doors opened. But I don't have a light... I have the turn signal + heated mirrors on a Lariat, and not sure if it was an option, or an oversight.

anyone actually have lights in theirs?

Yep. The KR came standard with puddle lights. I think they're round though... lemme go look.

Yep. Round.

Taken with camera phone towards lights on ceiling... sorry for the quality (or lack thereof).

Talking

son of a gun! lol

One-upped by the KR...

I guess the question now is, what the heck will fit the Lariat? and I wonder if it is pre-wired?

(Thanks for the pics RP!)

Glad to help...

I've never torn into that bulb housing... no clue if it's pre wired. *shrugs*

I'm willing to bet that if you have the turn signals that it is prewired for the puddle lights?

Mark, tear yours apart to see!

King Ranch mirrors also have an electronic fold-in/fold-out feature. It would be great if the puddle lamp feature was wired, but I would have to doubt it.

Right... hence the reason they're folded in within my picture above...

He does mention that he has heat to the mirrors but, my hunch is that this is only activated via the touch of a button.

With that in mind, I suppose you could probably wire them in to that same circuit... but, then again, that'd be pretty pointless wouldn't it? You'd have to activate your mirror heaters to get a light to come on...

BTW, I should point out that the light that the mirrors put out is mediscule.

Yep, forgot about that feature.

Puddle lights

My '06 KR has the puddle lights. Does anyone know if or where I can find aftermarket clear lenses so the lights would be brighter?

This will definitely be something that you'd have to engineer on your own. I seriously doubt anyone will make something like this for sale considering that KRs are the only ones out there with the lights...

Honestly though, I think it'd be a simple build with a small piece of plexi and some sealant...

Oh yes... where are my manners? Welcome to f150online.com!

I know what you're talking about on the little piece of square plastic on the Lariat mirrors. It's the same size and placement as was on the explorer puddle lamps that my friend had in 03.

If you have guts you could try and use a very thin screw driver to pop out that piece of plastic and see if you have prewired connections there. It's very possible, and would go inline with what Ford has done before.

Then all you would need to do is find the pop in lights. Then again it could not be a pop out piece of plastic and you could screw up your side mirrors.

Had a mirror from the wife and a garage door accident. I have heated, turn light and power mirrors. A couple more pics in my gallery

Bummer. Doesn't look like it is wired for puddle lamps.

Did you check the end of the wire harness to see if there were unused wires?
