Hi. It's okay - the whole issue is confusing... it's the 04 & up (to 07) 5.4L 3V modulars, and the 4.6L 3V modulars in the new 'stangs.

I'm waiting to see if the issue is addressed in the '08's ....

Smile Removal Tool

I have a 04 f150 and when i changed the plugs three of the eight broke off with the porcelain and the the little pin still in the head. I had to take the pin out with pliers, and use the spark plug removal tool. Its fairly cheap and easy to use, it pushes the porcelain down enough to get the other removal tool into the metal part and it comes right out! Its about a hundred dollars, alot cheaper than the one from ford!

This is where i found the tool and i had no problem with it!

why do you want to replace spark plugs at 45/60000 thousand miles. the plugs are 100,000 mile plugs. my vehicle has 75,000 miles and the spark plugs are doing fine. so if you follow the recommended maintance schudule, you will be find.

They do the early plug change to try to avoid the plug breakage problem. Get them out before too much carbon builds up. However, I think there are better options.
