New mods...

I just got my factory 9.75 rear axle put back on (used to have an older Dana 60) with a posi-track with 4.10 gears and a Mag hy-tech diff cover. Im bummed the Dana had to go, but I do love the look of the Mag Hy-Tech cover.

Why did you do the swap in the first place? The 9.75 is a nice rear end and there are several LSD's and lockers available. What did the swap consist of, what are the details on the 60 (splinecount, etc.). I have my doubts because you do not just swap an axle and never make a thread about it, not having pics makes it even worse. I'm assuming the dshaft bolt patterns were different as well, how did you get around ABS on the older axle. I have many questions but I'd first like to see pics and what it consisted of.

Josiah,
Funny how you being lifted like the 9.75 rear end and I being lowered dislike it for the reasons you like it.

It may sound like BS because the I really have no idea what a diff consists of. I can build any suspension and weld any cage but the diff is foreign to me. My buddy at the fab shop thought it would be cool to try to put an electric locker onto a new F150 but as you know they do not make any kind of good locker for the 9.75 rear end. I do know that my abs was jacked up being one of the reasons I wanted to switch back to my stock 9.75 rear end, plus I just bought a weekend warrior and I wanna do a lot of towing so I know the stock rear is better fitted for towing on these trucks. As for making anything up, why would I make something up that wouldnt benifit me at all on here? This was mearly an expieriment that really didnt work out in the long run. Settle down Josiah

Yeah the abs problem can be resolved by relocating the sensor from in side to outside the housing.

What axles did you use? I would assume that you would have to have used the stock 9.75 axles unless you went into some major modding to get the disc brakes set up to adapt to the older axles....plus the 6 bolt pattern of your wheels is unique to these trucks. So again unless you used the 9.75 axels where did you find the correct 6 lug hub to use on the 9.75? Will 9.75 axles even fit into a Dana 60?

I am not an Axel expert but being in the middle of building a bullet proom (I HOPE) B&W 9 Bolt for my Firebird and adopting LS1 rear brakes to it, I have learned enough from that that I agree that an axle swap into a non-stock application is not a simple project at all. Then simply swapping the stocker back in is even harder to understand....surely mods would have had to been made that would make going back to stock fairly difficult.

Not doubting you...just asking for a little more in depth info to understand what the swap consisted of.

OK...My buddy at the fab shop has been good friends with Charlie Currie for years and he had him special order some axles from him with the 6x135mm axle pattern to work with the Dana 60. My buddy has a water jet so he cut out some brackets to weld directly to the dana 60 out shafts for use with the Wilwood rear disk brake kit. We also had to weld all the connecting points for the stock shocks and leaf spring to connect properly to the truck. It took about 2 days fabbing and welding but we got it to fit.

All that and you have everything else you done to the truck listed in your mods....even your "Custom Beer Opener"....but not a mention of the diff, axles, Wilwood brakes, and electric locker. Some stuff I would have actually been interested in knowing about! Damn you even had a couple page long thread about LED blinker lights you couldnt get to work right.....but no mention of the rear end until its out!

Ha I have tons of mods done to my truck I havent mentioned. The fact I never mentioned this mod is because this was one of the first mods I did after lifting my truck. I was not yet a member of this thread when we did the axle swap. This swap has been nothing but trouble since the start, hence me swapping the stocker back in. It only took about 4 hours to take the old one off and swap the stocker in.
