"Old" Trucks

This thought jumped into my head the other day.....what happens to all the trucks (well all the vehicles really) when they are not sold on a dealership's lot? Um.....I guess what I'm trying to say is where do all the 05's or 06's go when they are not sold? They got some special place for them? Maybe use them for parts? Enlighten me

They ALL get sold, eventually.

But if something REALLY won't move (discounting attempted etc) then they auction them.

When I was shopping for an Expedition last month, I found many dealers still had brand new 2005 models on the lot. As far as the "deal" for the 2005's were concerned, most dealers offered all the rebates for the 2006's plus 0% Ford financing. My local dealer is now offering Family Plan price, minus rebates and 0% for the 2005's. If they still don't sell, he just unloads them on one of his used car lots.

It's funny this question came up. I found myself on a Ford lot the other day when I spotted a BRAND NEW '05 in a corner. Only 200 miles on the clock. It was an XLT loaded with every option available, this truck was easily about $45,000 a year ago. The dealer was blowing it out for $18,000! When you consider it still has full warranty that's a good buy for somebody. I asked how they could still have an '05 with so few miles and the owner told me that because the '04's sold so well he purchased a few extra '05 models. This was the one truck he couldn't sell before the '06's came out. Everybody want's to test an '06, the '05 is old news. Funny how people think.

Maybe thats why it didn't sell in the first place....they put a Harley Davidson window sticker in it by mistake.

Yep, they all get sold. Thats why the salemen push so hard to buy something out of their inventory rather than putting in a special order. Also remember that most of the larger dealerships have locations in multiple states and their inventory can be shared between these locations.

What abought lease returns that go back to Ford? Can joe average bid on them at a auction, or is this just for Ford dealers?

Ford must move thier lease returns that the dealers don't want some where.

Auctions huh....that would be awesome. Any idea where they happen and can anyone attend? Or are they just auctions that the local dealership hold?

Well to be honest once I saw the 45k on an XLT I read the rest of the post with a skeptical eye. Nothing personal but I'd never seen an XLT for anywhere close to that. My fully loaded Lariat stickered for 42.

Canadian dollars makes it more plausible (although I haven't checked the exchange rates). I'll take your word on it.

So in the end.

Good Find
