I may be wrong, I'm pretty sure our block is the same as the Lightning's block isn't it? I think it is the same block with 3v or 2v or 4v heads, because there was a guy on here that swapped a set of 4v heads onto a built block.

Anyways there are lots of tuners (ie. JDM, PSP JLP) out there with short blocks for the Lightning. I would start there before I attempted to mod it any further. My next choice would be twin turbos if I were in your shoes. Of course then you would have to find somebody who is capable of making those work. Wastegates can be tricky, and I wouldn't let just any yayhoo work on a turbo setup. Anyways hope this helps.

Are you sure? What is the difference between the two? I know that Shock Therapy swapped in 4v heads (from a Navigator) on his truck. Here's the link.

I'm not really positive myself, was just raising the question.

Edit: Added from a Navigator.

The GT block is setup for a dry sump oiling system and it has no provision on the block for a starter. There are other smaller differences that I won't go into detail on.

Okay I think we got our wires crossed. I was wondering about the difference in a Lightning block and a regular 3 valve F150 block.

These were some great ideas, sorry I got back to the thread so late. Had some stuff to do.

I suppose I should explain why I wouldnt just buy a Mustang GT or a GT 500 and then work on it. I previously had a Lightning (2002) and was expecting to just trade in for a Gen 3 Lightning. Unfortunately we're not going to get one anytime soon. So I set out to create my own, to my own specs. Unfortunately I can't seem to get a dyno rating of 500+ HP. I also cant seem to find those huge Brembo rotors and pads used on the Gen 3 concept.

I also seem to have a problem locating high quality engine mod parts, does anyone else think our truck engines are difficult to find mods for?

The starter, from what I remember, actually starts the engine off the front accessories.

Actually the starter is mounted on the transaxel. But I deliver good news. A company called JDM Engineering is modifing the GT block so it can be used in a F-series or a mustang. Here is the article I read about it and their web site. Hope this helps some.

Just throw a nitrous kit on, I bet that would wake it up!

The GT engine is cost prohiitive for most. If you want to know how it can be done, get fast ford trucks mag, which recently ran an article on JDDM doing this mod.
