Yes the law here states that you have to have the front plate installed in plain view. Ive received many tickets for it but they are easy to fix. I just have a piece of double sided tape on the front plate so when I get it signed off by the CHP, they see one on there but I remove it before I leave the lot

YES!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's worth the ticket to not have it. That is why the DMV sends two plates, and Ford installs a front bracket. I'm not saying that there aren't better looking things to put on the front end though!

Regards!

I have no front plate on my truck, and dealer plates on my Focus LOOOOONG after the metal ones came. I've got them in the car though and the RS (report of sale) is in the window. Technically, it never expires either so it is 100% legal, to my knowledge. The truck is not legal, however, but it looks much better with the CW lower grille up there....

Maybe roushlimited will chime in, he's the resident LEO...

CW stands for the manufacturer Carriage Works. They make a host of aftermarket grills. BTW your sig pic shows a front plate. Did you take it off since then?

My truck is breaking many laws and the front license plate is one of them. I've been pulled over several times like everyone else...but not once was I even warned about it here in Cali. When you're my age you probably do things from time to time where it's an advantage to have no front plate as well. I bought my truck from Indiana and they gave me the reacharound on registration charges ($1700 to register!?!). If they wanted me to abide by their rules it shouldn't have costed me 1700 (it was very difficult coming up with this and I prolonged it as long as possible, until the registration fixit tickets stacked up), screw'em Joe and you're going to be a chp yourself...write'em off. I am enraged everytime I think about it, I will work around and exploit the system as much as possible.

Yep, you guys are lucky. It's the law to have it on.

I just got a fix it ticket today for no mud flaps (tires stick out past the fenders)...that's another freakin' law I can't stand here in Cali. Good thing I know alot of police officers!

In the little time that I've been out here (mind you, I'm sitting in SoCal right now), I've noticed that a BUNCH of people don't even use license plates... they all leave the dealer plate behind the dealer's license frame that came on the car.

I've seen this to be true on everything from Fords to Bentleys... what's the deal with that here?

Well I think its more like officers wont really just stop you for that. I got a ticket for my windows once. Just really depends if the officer wants to write tickets for that stuff or find something more interesting.

But as far as that goes, say its a late friday night, your out drinking maybe even just one shot. The cops can pull you over for (tint no license plate so on ) and then could smell the recent liquor and just hassle you.
haha then make you sit on curb or something like that too.

Those are new cars/trucks. When you buy a new car/truck out here it can take a couple of weeks to a couple of months to get your plates (in the mail). There should be a temp registration taped inside the right front or rear window. In the meantime, people just keep on there dealer "advertising" plates. I take mine off when I buy a new vehicle and it seems like I got pulled over every other day. lol

BTW, are going to be down by San Diego next weekend? If so, let me know...maybe we can meet up. We can take our wives out to dinner or something...I always like the opportunity to put a face behind the screen name.
