When the recirculate button is activated, shouldn't it make some noise? All my other cars sounded different when engaged. My truck does not seem to act or cool any different when the button is pushed.

Welcome to the club. I have had the same problem since brand new. Ford alwasy said it was to spec. Mind does it on a hot start up at idle. Compressor clicks on and off, on and off ect... But once one drives away cold artic air, and compressor stays on. I have noticed it was mainly some of the 06lariat that had this problem. I changed the low preasure swithch and also the eatc panel control and still the same crap. Mine does 42 degress aslo.

I am in the market for a remote start, mainly for the winter, and this concerns me.

So was the general concencus to leave the truck on AUTO and it will heat/cool the truck up as quickly as possible? With recirculate?

I don't think you want to use recirculate for heater/defroster. I only use recirculate when it gets really hot or driving in dusty conditions.

My 2008 stays on recirculate when I push the botton and says on recirculate unless I turn it off or hit auto again.

Actually, many vehicle systems turn on the A/C compressor/recirc during defroster operation because it uses the dryer/evaporator to remove moisture from the air which heats more quickly and keeps moisture from condensing on the glass.

The recirculate control has nothing to do with a/c compressor operation. If the EATC system is on auto, it will use the compressor in either mode based on temperature and humidity. The recirculate mode recirculates cabin air through the heater or evaporator core, while the normal cycle inducts outside air from the vents under the windshield through the respective cores. The a/c compressor cycles the same in either mode of operation. I find the heater doesn't keep as consistent a cabin temperature while in recirculate. YMMV.
