moonroof question

my new f150 has a power moonroof but i noticed something and wanted to see if everyones does it or just mine. i can open the roof by touching it once and it will open all but about an inch and a half if i push the button again it will open the rest off the way. same when closing it it will close that inch or so then have to push it again to close all the way. anyone elses do this?

Mine is the same way also. The switch kind of works like the one on your driver's side window. I just wish the sunroof was like the one in my wife's car that closes automatically when you shut the vehicle off, I keep getting out and forgetting about it being open.

There is a reason for this......it's called pinch protection. Auto manufactures are required to put something in effect so the windows won't "auto-close" on someone's fingers so you could sue them for lots of money. The cars at work have auto down and auto up on all 4 windows but it has a sensor that detects the rate of closing and if something obstructs the flow, it will stop and open back up a little. I guess Ford didn't want to have to put those sensors in place so they took the easy route out and put a stop right before full close so you have to manually close your fingers in the window. Same thing with opening, you can still get caught up in the front of the sun roof against the headliner/roof when opening I guess....

The big reasoning for this is aerodynamics. Open your sunroof partially anywhere between that stop position with the rest of the windows in the truck closed. It'll sound like a big boom box inside with all the resonation from the air buffeting throughout the cabin.

Now, back it up to that preset position and try again. There'll probably still be some resonance, but it'll be significantly less than if it was set to a position other than the preset stop or wide open.

Don't open that thing at over 70mph though!! It'll catch air (seems like between the halfs of the roof or something) and scare the crap out of you! Does anyone have a deflector on theirs?

That's not what this does though, the last 2 inches of travel are in the open position, not the closing position.
Like QUintin said, it is for aerodynamics, open that thing all the way and it is booming.

Mine does the same thing and so do the Escape's. I've never had a problem with having to moon roof open on the highway, but that might be because I usually have all six windows open.

Mine seems to happen @ around 25-30mph pretty bad if you throw it all the way back, I love the moonroof but it's one of those expensive things that is just nice to say you have
