12,000 miles/ 24 miles per gallon= 500 gallons X $3.00 per gallon

So $2250 for the F-150 $1500 for Fusion now divide that by 12 months= $62.50 more a month to drive a F-150

Yeah, anyone can fudge the numbers to make it work for them. Works both ways. I drove a 4 banger 00 ranger that didn't get all that great of mpg so I went for it and got the f150. Not that big of a difference after crunching the numbers, and I crunched them alot. Payments on the other hand.......................
I didn't get rid of my F-150. I bought a new Chevy Aveo for monthly payments less than what I was paying weekly for commuting in the truck. I got a bare bones for $8500 and it gets 35mpg. As the gas prices keep climbing, my payment stays the same and I still have my truck.
You could also get a bike like I did 2 months ago. Didn't get it so much for the gas mileage as I like to ride. 05 Honda Sabre gets 40 mpg. Have put about 600 miles on my truck since I bought the bike 2 months ago.
Well now a days if you can save money anyway you can I would do it to. Right now I drive maybe 15 miles round trip to work so I can go about 3 weeks on a tank but if I was driving that many miles to work I would have a car that could get better mileage. If things do work out right and he is saving about $500 month driving another car what's wrong with that he's saving $500 more a month. I'm moving out of NJ because I can't afoord it in this state. What should I do not move just because someone else thinks that I shouldn't move because they can afford to live here but I can't?

How many thousands did he lose buying a new truck in 2004, and trading it in on a Fusion?
What, do you just pretend that money wasn't there? You just write it off?
How much gas can you buy with the money you just lost trading in the truck?
for most people doing the trade thing for gas purposes only, it is a mind set that they are saving money. How much did gas go up since 04 when he bought the truck? say 1 dollar per gallon? That could total about $200 month more than in 04.
If you are the type of person that only cares about the monthly numbers (and dealers love those), then you are saving money monthly. In the whole picture you lost money (serious depreciaton in first two years) and the vehicle you would rather drive.
That being said I always believe people should drive what they want, its their money and choice.
The guy just came by to say goodbye not to get flamed. But this topic of gas always come out the same as far as the logic involved.
At least he bought another Ford and not a Corolla

first of all Cajun, if you knew me, you would know that nobody talked me out of anything. I liked my F150 no doubt and yes i know that in the overall picture i probably did lose money, but that is no reason to keep suffering every month. A lot of things changed since i bought this truck, my wife and i had our 2nd child and with daycare expenses and all other things i came to realization that something had to go, so it was the F150, not the Mustang. I can tough it out a few years and hopefully i can get me another one. I love Ford and i love the F150's. Take care.

Sorry to see you go, but I am happy to see another Ford family. What I don't understand is why people here get offended and mean to people who sell their trucks.
I like to see Ford people, and sometimes it's like seeing them get kicked in the teeth as they are trying to bid a fond farewell. It makes me wonder if they will get so ticked off at the flaming they won't want another F150 or at least not to come to the boards.
Enjoy your car, congratulations on your 2nd child and drive on with a smile my Ford brethren.

I've driven a Ford truck for the last eleven years. Didn't need a truck, didn't really use them as 'trucks'. Decided it was time for something different. Got rid of the F150 and bought a Fusion. A four cylinder none the less. I really enjoy driving it. It's fun. The four cylinder has 160 horsepower. If any of you are older than 20, you might remember that 302 Mustangs in the early 80's only had 140 horses so this 'four banger' is not the dog you think. The 24 mpg city, 32 mpg highway is just icing on the cake.
Bottom line, you like your truck, that's great. I liked mine. Now I like my Fusion.
