35s with 4.88s

Is anyone running 4.88 gears with 35s? Or know anyone who is? Would this be a bad idea? Was planning to run 4.56 gears with 33s (already have the tires and gears) on a rancho 4". If I go to a 6" Im going to have to get 35s (more delays, $$$$$), so I was thinking of getting 4.88s. I know the 4.56s will take me to stock but I think if I have to pay that much I might as well get more wheaties. Same kinda plan but I dont know if 4.88s are too low. Sorry its pretty long but I wanted to put as much info for the responses. 05 fx4. Go or No Go?

Do it.. 4.88's. You wont be sorry. I'd also look into getting a tuner to correct the speedo and get allitle more "ooomph" out of it.

from what I've gotten from the forums 4.56 is what you need for 35s.

little to high as well...

4.56 is what you need. 4.56 wont get you back to stock... stock would be around 4.30 if you can stock with 3.73

However they dont make 4.30 for our trucks.. So go with 4.56

Got it. I thought 4.56 would only take me back to stock. I guess that I will keep the 4.56 gears I already have and save some cash. Thanks for your help, AGAIN, guys.

Do you even realize what you're typing. You just said "would only would take me back to stock". Are you trying to make your lifted truck a racer?

Do you think before you speak or in this case, type?

Who said he wants to race? . . maybe he wants more power offroad? . . something you do with a 4WD vehicle.

Sorry if my questions bother you ther Silver05! Not all of us are mechanical wizards. Why would I want to make a lifted truck a "racer"? I just thought if I was going to spend the money I would get the most power I could. I dont really like the feeling of my truck starting to bog down when I am in the sand and there is nowhere to go but through more sand! I dont know what set up you have but I have 33x13.5 on right now with the stock 3.73s and I dont like it. Once again I will try think before I ask a question but I just thought anyone uses a truck off road would understand.

milo99 don't apologize to Silver05, I wouldn't pay him much attention. He never has anything to say unless its negative.

Oh BTW hes got a lifted 2WD on 35s that he jumps curbs in grocery store parking lots.

oh.. I didnt realize you already had the 4.56's.... yeah, I'd just save your money...

If you were still stock in the gear department, I'd say go for the 4.88s.

I'm running 4.10s on a 28" tire... If I could do it over again, I would have gotten 4.56's... With a 35" tire... 4.88's MINIMUM...

EDIT: With 35" tires and 4.56's... At 65MPH, you'll be right at 2000 RPMs
35" 4.56 65MPH = 2000RPM
33" 4.56 65MPH = 2100RPM
35" 4.88 65MPH = 2250RPM
Overkill? Not hardly!

My truck.
28.45" 4.10 65MPH = 2200RPM
28.45" 4.56 65MPH = 2450RPM
To each his own, but I dont wanna have to put my foot through the floor to get these pigs moving.

I have the 4.56 gears already but I have not installed them. Im waiting till I have enough money to pay for the lift and labor to install both along with some new 35x13.5 M.T. baja claw radials. I have the same tire in 33x13.5 right now but I only have a leveling kit. Think I want a 6" lift so I will need new tires. Fabtech or Procomp? Either way I will get the upgraded coilovers. Im about 1/3 of the way as far as the funds go so its going to be a couple more months. This "mortgage" stuff really blows!
