Thumbs up HID / Stock comparison

For those of you that wanted to see it, check out my pics.. they are side by side.. I LOVE THEM! I light up street signs 4 blocks away!! It's pretty brutal when it snows though.. almost too bright. People flick me off, flip their rear view mirrors, and flash their brights at me all the time.

Wowsers, holy glare batman! I'm sure the reason for people brighting you is due to the major glare with the HID's in the OEM housings. Look at how much sharper and cleaner the OEM cutoff is.

Not trying to dis your mod, congrats on it....I appreciate you taking the pics. Having had true OEM HID setups in my past cars, I won't be putting in a 'hid kit' (at least not without doing a true retrofit on it).

Take Care and enjoy it, nice looking truck.

they must not understand you need a lot of light to see when you drive this way...

I'm not going to lie. It flat out looks like crap. I mean you honestly must not know anything about lighting, HID, or even done a search on the extensive amount of information that I and several other members have posted about HID and lighting for these trucks in general.

I wouldn't be suprised if someone accidentally drives right in front of you with all the glare you are putting on the road and in their eyes.

Search for my HID threads and you'll see how real HID is supposed to look. I guarantee my HID retrofit would spank the crap out of what it is you could even possibly see with all that scattered blue light.

I'd teach you more right now, but I frankly am astonished at how excited you appear to be that you are blinding everyone on the road.

FYI. If pulled over by a cop for your headlights, it's a $5,000 fine for illegal lighting which results in the blinding of oncoming traffic. You may have went cheap with the plug and play blue system, but it's going to cost you big when you get pulled over. I'm not lieing to you, google this topic and you'll find there really is a big crack down happening on this type of stuff.

i fully agree with Duke. I had the HID kit and I started to blind everyone. I didnt care but then i read the info on how cops are coming down on these lights and i took them off. I also liked my high beams! I know you can get some crappy projector lights on ebay to kinda solve the glare problem. It will look ricey but if you truely like your HID's they will work, sorta. haha. Here is a pic of the best looking ones i could find...

Well for some of you guys, thanks for being so honest, and giving me the details about the police issue, it's helpful. For some of the rest of your comments (for future reference) there ARE nicer ways of dictating your words, and there is no reason to be rude! You could have just as easily said that there are much better kits out there, and that I should check out the police issue. Then again, I know it's hard for some of you to just give advice, and not 'knock someone' for what they do. It's understandable, this is what happens when you don't mature.

As far as the way they look, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and we each have or own.

Thanks Travis, for being so informative, I'll have to look into true HID's, these were just an awesome deal, and I wanted to try them.

On behalf of everyone on F150 online, I would like to apologize. I've noticed the crowd around here apparently grew up without parents. Or at least without parents telling them, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

I'm sick of the posts on here where people are just plain ****s with no good reason. so LAME.

anyway, good work, and I'm glad you enjoy them. Just be careful with the local law enforcement!

Look at your own pics, the light dispersion is horrible. There is a guy on here how put the HID's in his fogs, the light quality was awesome as the 04-05 square factory fogs is a great setup for putting a HID replacement in.. the headlights as you can "see" are not..

Sorry if I offended you. But this topic has been beat to death and a simple search would find at least 30 threads in which I have given detailed reasons against throwing HID bulbs into our stock headlights. It gets frustrating when people post stuff like:

"People flick me off, flip their rear view mirrors, and flash their brights at me all the time."

To me this doesn't sound too mature either, nor does it depict someone who is asking for a polite response to their work. Especially if " people flick me off".

So you don't have to use the search button to find out more information, I have provided you direct links.

Thread to show you have real HID in our trucks should look

Significantly detailed thread about why what you did is both illegal and a really bad idea

Enjoy,

Duke

Well thanks for that much. I know they are not GREAT, but I do like them, and it's what I can afford at the moment. I have only been on this board for 5 days, and someone asked to see the pics.. so I took some and posted a thread. Thats the beginning and end of the story. I didn't post them for everyone to agree with me, or give me great feedback, but only because they were asked for in a previous thread. Had I been on this board previously, I probably would have researched it, as I'm WELL aware of how to use the search function of this site.

Sorry if I wasn't as mature by posting what reactions people have to them, so in that respect... I guess we're even.

The measure of truly effective lighting is somewhat of a paradox. Yes, lots of light down the road is good, but lots of light in everyone else's eyes is bad. So the real solution is tough, and generally expensive to obtain. The thing I'd worry about if everybody was flashing me was some nut case taking matters into their own hands. I might offer that what you need here is focus. Getting all of that light in the right places is the key. By the way, at least some of your problem can be fixed by a bit of aiming - but not all of it.

The reaction was strong for a reason

This isn't about some cosmetic mod you did where it's a subjective, like it or hate it thing. You got unsafe lighting because you wanted bright, cheap, and good looking and you did it at the expense of the safety and well-being of those who share the road with you. It has been my experience that people who know alot about lighting tend to have strong feelings when it comes to throwing HID bulbs in halogen housings. This is probably because they are tired of getting a bad rap from the driving public for being into high-performance aftermarket lighting due to some people out there running bad setups and being a nuissance and road hazzard to others. Some people get frustrated hearing the same thing over and over from people who do it the cheap way: "I annoy and blind other drivers and they frequently flip me the bird but screw them, it's cheap, it's bright, so everybody else will have to live with it. They are a-holes for flipping me the bird, I'll just hit them with my high beams to show them what bright REALLY is."

People flipping you the bird is not an indicator that your lights are effective. It indicates you are throwing light into areas where you shouldn't be. Regular low beams when properly aimed and properly housed should never annoy other drivers. Look at pics of other HID beam patterns on the net. You will see a common trait: extremely sharp cutoff. IF I were you I'd take those things out, throw in some silverstars, then save up the money to do a proper retrofit.
